Many cities and countries have already begun experimenting ways of cooling as our planet gets hotter. It will require collaborative efforts from industry, government, finance, and civil society in finding ways to keep us cool without making our planet earth hotter, to deploy most efficient technologies existing as well as inventing new technologies for the developing world to leapfrog ahead to a cooler and brighter future.
The warmer it gets, the more people use air conditioning—but the more people use air conditioning, the warmer it gets. Is there any way out of this trap? In the video published on Nov 12, 2021, by The Economist, as “How to keep cool while the world gets hotter“, below:
The construction industry is responsible for over a tenth of the world’s man-made carbon emissions, with concrete being the biggest culprit. How can we continue to build, without it costing the earth? In the video published on March 22, 2022, by The Economist, as “Sustainable materials: is there a concrete solution?” below:
Scientists have just had a major solar panels efficiency breakthrough, and it could mean a big change for the future of renewable energy. Visit https://brilliant.org/undecided to sign up for free. And also, the first 200 people will get 20% off their annual premium membership. This isn’t just more hype, but a sign of where solar panel technology stands today and is heading in the near future. However, this isn’t the only big solar panel news from 2022. There’s been a lot of very recent advancements from perovskites to organic solar cells too, so what does this mean for you and me? Let’s see if we can come to a decision on this, in the video published on July 12, 2022, by Undecided with Matt Ferrell, as “Exploring Solar Panel Efficiency Breakthroughs in 2022“, below:
Humans are cranking up their thermostats at the expense of the planet. With the majority of global heating still powered by dirty fuels, are there greener solutions that won’t cost the earth? In the video published on Jan 27, 2022, by The Economist, as “Keeping warm, without warming the planet“, below:
The construction industry is responsible for 11% of the world’s man-made CO2 emissions—due to its reliance on concrete and steel. What alternative materials could be used in the future? In the video published on Feb 22, 2022, by The Economist, as “Green building: can mushrooms help?” below:
The world is addicted to concrete, and it’s making climate change a lot worse. But there’s a new generation of futuristic, sustainable building materials on the way. We try out mushroom-bricks as a future material by growing a brick ourselves and putting it to the test, in the video published on Feb 2, 2021, by Verge Science, as “This mushroom brick could replace concrete“, below:
