The No Kings protests (also known as No Kings Day or No Dictators Day/protests) were a series of demonstrations that took place on June 14, 2025, the day of the U.S. Army 250th Anniversary Parade and the 79th birthday of U.S. president Donald Trump, in protest of Trump’s policies and actions during his second presidency. It is estimated that above 5 million people participated in over 2,000 events nationwide in the largest coordinated protests since the start of the second Trump administration. Casualties include one death resulting from a shooting in Utah and two injuries from car attacks in California and Virginia.
“No King’s Day” refers to a symbolic, unofficial observance or protest that gained attention in 2025. It is not a federal holiday and not officially recognized in the U.S. calendar. The term emerged in opposition to perceived authoritarianism or “monarchical” behavior by political leaders—particularly in reaction to Donald Trump’s push to rebrand June 14 (his birthday) as “King’s Day.”
The phrase “No King’s Day” became popular among critics who reject the idea of glorifying any one political leader in a way that resembles monarchy. On June 14, 2025, many people and groups used #NoKingsDay on social media as a counter-message.

Background
The No Kings protests were aimed at opposing the policies and actions of the Donald Trump administration. Due to the US Army 250th Anniversary Parade coinciding with President Trump’s 79th birthday, anti-Trump activists interpreted the event as an example of Trump using the US Armed Forces to perform an authoritarian or king-like celebration of himself. The protests followed several days of demonstrations against ICE raids across the US,[a] including in Los Angeles, where Trump deployed both the California National Guard and the US Marine Corps in response to riots.[9][4] The American Federation of Teachers and Communications Workers of America, organized the protests.[10][11] The “No Kings” theme was created by the 50501 movement and derives its name from the perceived authoritarian or tyrannical behavior of Trump and his administration. Critics and activists have compared Trump to an absolute monarch due to his defiance of court orders, extralegal deportations, and perceived disregard for civil rights.[9] Due to many countries having monarchs as heads of state, Democrats Abroad organized solidarity protests internationally with the term of “No Tyrants”,[12] with the message of “We reject authoritarianism. We reject fear. We reject tyrants.”[12]
Trump publicly opposed the demonstrations, adding, “I don’t feel like a king.”[13] Notably, no official No Kings protests were held in Washington, D.C., where the Army parade took place. Organizers intentionally avoided D.C. so as “to keep the focus on contrast, and not give the Trump administration an opportunity to stoke and then put the focus on conflict,” according to Leah Greenberg, co-head of partner group Indivisible.[14] Trump additionally threatened to respond forcefully to any protesters attempting to disrupt the Army parade in D.C., stating, “For those people that want to protest, they’re going to be met with very big force.”[15][16][17]

“No Kings” Day organizers say it is more important than ever to have a “national day of peaceful protest” on June 14 following the decision by President Donald Trump to send in Marines and the National Guard to Los Angeles. “I think we will see the largest peaceful single day protests that this country has seen certainly since the first Trump term,” said Indivisible cofounder Ezra Levin, one of the organizers. Now, about 2,000 protests and rallies named “No Kings” Day are planned to oppose what they see as Trump’s power grab, nearly double that of the April 5 “Hands Off” protest that saw millions of Americans turn out in big and small cities nationwide. Organizers expect millions of Americans to turn out across the country on June 14. The protests occur the same day as a parade to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army in Washington, D.C., which also falls on Trump’s 79th birthday, in the video streamed on June 14, 2025, by USA TODAY, as “Watch live: “No Kings” Day protests held nationwide“, below:

“No Kings Day” protests are being held nationwide this weekend to protest President Donald Trump’s policies. Demonstrators are expected to rally in almost 2,000 cities on Saturday, and it will coincide with Trump’s military parade, commemorating the Army’s 250th anniversary, which also happens to be the president’s birthday and Flag Day. The No Kings Day of Defiance has been organized to reject authoritarianism, billionaire-first politics, and the militarization of the country’s democracy, according to a statement by organizers. The No Kings Day of Defiance is expected to be the largest single-day mobilization since Trump returned to office, organizers said. Organizers said they are preparing for millions of people to take to the streets across all 50 states and commonwealths. Locally, law enforcement is issuing strong warnings to keep protests peaceful, emphasizing zero tolerance for violence. Florida officials have mobilized resources, including local police, state agencies, and the National Guard as a precaution.
