A recent recall has been issued for raw milk products from Raw Farm, a dairy based in Fresno, California, after routine testing detected the presence of the bird flu virus (Avian influenza A H5N1). The affected products include cream top, whole raw milk with a best by date of November 27, 2024. Consumers are advised to return any remaining product to the store where it was purchased. (AP News )
This recall underscores the health risks associated with consuming raw (unpasteurized) milk. Raw milk can harbor harmful pathogens such as E. coli, Salmonella, Listeria, and, as recently identified, the bird flu virus. Pasteurization effectively eliminates these pathogens, making milk safe for consumption. Health officials strongly recommend consuming only pasteurized milk and dairy products to minimize the risk of foodborne illnesses.(Eater )
In light of this incident, it’s crucial to stay informed about food safety advisories and adhere to public health recommendations to protect yourself and your family from potential health hazards.
