Key Provisions of Amendment 3:
-
Personal Use: Adults 21 and older could possess up to three ounces of marijuana, including up to five grams in concentrate form. (Wuwf)
-
Sales and Distribution: Existing Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers would be authorized to sell marijuana to adults for personal use. The Florida Legislature could also license additional entities to cultivate and sell marijuana products. (Ballotpedia)
-
Regulatory Framework: The amendment would establish possession limits and allow for consistent legislation, but it does not permit home cultivation of marijuana. (Florida Election Petitions)
Support and Opposition:
-
Supporters: Advocates argue that legalization would reduce criminalization, generate tax revenue, and align Florida with other states that have legalized recreational marijuana. Notable supporters include former President Donald Trump, who expressed his backing in September 2024.(Politico)
-
Opponents: Critics, including Governor Ron DeSantis, contend that the amendment could lead to increased public use and potential negative social impacts. DeSantis has actively campaigned against the measure, citing concerns over public health and safety.(CBS News)
As Election Day approaches, Floridians will decide whether to adopt Amendment 3 and legalize recreational marijuana in the state. Sources:
