It’s good to find out that we are not living in Russia and our government regulatory agencies are very responsive instead of simply shutting down those making inquiries.
Regarding our previous post on Georgia’s Vogtle-3 Reactor Has Been Shut Down, Senior Public Affairs Officer Diane Screnci was kind enough to return my phone call, explaining that the Vogtle-3 was shut down last Monday, July 8, 2024, due to the problem with a valve on a pump that provides water to the steam generator. The operating manual shut down the plant. Plant is stable and it responded as designed. There was no impact on the public health and safety. Inspectors have been at the plant since to monitor company’s activities to understand the issue and to fix it. Right now there is no safety concern. Officer Screnci may answer any concern or question via 610-337-5330.
Since the problem is due to a valve on the side not involving nuclear activity, there is no impact on the public health and safety. The fact that the Vogtle-3 power plant was shut down, it further assures safety for local residents.
Update
By Friday, July 19, 2024, it looks as though Vogtle-3 is back online operating at 60% level! Hip Hip Hurray!
