There was assassination attempt of Donald Trump on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at his rally in Butler County of Pennsylvania.
More detailed report below, in italics, by wikipedia:
On July 13, 2024, Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States and the Republican Party‘s presumptive nominee for the 2024 presidential election, was shot in the upper right ear at a campaign rally near Butler, Pennsylvania.[8][9][10][11][12] The shooting is being investigated as an attempted assassination.[13][14][15]
The shooter was identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.[5][13][16][17] Law enforcement personnel and witnesses said Crooks crawled onto the roof of a building, owned by AGR International[18] and located outside the rally venue, and fired eight rounds from an AR-15–style rifle before being killed by a Secret Service Counter Assault Team sniper.[19][20] One member of the audience was killed, and two others were critically injured.[21] After being shot, Trump ducked to the ground and was quickly surrounded by Secret Service personnel. He soon was helped to his feet by Secret Service, and blood was visible on his right ear. He said “Let me get my shoes,” and then “wait, wait, wait” to the agents before pumping his fist in the air and shouting “Fight, fight, fight!”;[22][23] he was then hurried to a vehicle.[13][24] Trump was taken to a hospital, released in stable condition, and departed for New Jersey by plane.
Political scientists,[25][26] historians,[27][26] and political figures within both the Republican and the Democratic Parties[28] regarded the shooting as a sign of profound political polarization in the country. The events led to widespread sympathy for Trump on social media[29] and political figures across the political spectrum both domestically and internationally[30] urged for a decrease in tensions, condemning the assassination attempt on his life.[26][31] News agencies described Trump as being widely seen as a martyr after the event.[32][33][34] It was the first time a former or current U.S. president had been injured in an assassination attempt since Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981, and the first time a presidential candidate had been injured in such an incident since the attempted assassination of George Wallace in 1972.[35] A number of public figures have called for an increase in security for the three major candidates in the election: Trump, Joe Biden, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.[36]
Shooting
Trump arrived on the stage at his campaign rally at about 6:03 p.m. EDT.[51] About ten minutes later, at approximately 6:12 p.m., Thomas Matthew Crooks fired eight shots into the rally venue from an AR-15-style rifle.[19][51] Crooks had not undergone security screening, as he was outside the security perimeter of the rally; he had climbed onto the roof of a shed, 200 to 400 feet (61 to 122 metres) north of Trump.[52][53][54][55] Reports indicated that a witness had observed a man carrying a rifle on the rooftop and had attempted to alert the police about the individual minutes before shots were fired at Trump.[56]
Local law enforcement identified Crooks and felt that he might have been acting suspicious near the event’s magnetometers; they alerted about their suspicions over the radio and together with the Secret Service kept an eye on Crooks.[48] As the shots were heard, the rally attendees yelled “duck!”[57]
Trump was shot in the upper right ear. He put a hand to the ear and then dropped to the ground.[58][11][59][60] Secret Service agents lunged toward Trump and shielded him. After about twenty-five seconds,[61] agents helped Trump get up, by which time blood was visible on Trump’s ear and face and he told Secret Service agents to “Let me get my shoes. Let me get my shoes.”[61] Trump then raised his fist and pumped it at the crowd while mouthing the word “fight,” with the crowd responding with cheers and chants of “U-S-A!“[61] He was then escorted to a vehicle and taken to a nearby hospital.[59][61][62]
Crooks was killed by a sniper from the United States Secret Service Counter Assault Team immediately after the shooting.[59]
Victims
Apart from Trump, three adult male rally attendees were hit.[63] One of them, 50-year-old Corey Comperatore, was killed, and the other two critically injured.[64] Comperatore worked as a project and tooling engineer and was a volunteer firefighter.[65][66] He was the former chief of the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company.[67][68] According to his family and Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro, he died while shielding his daughters from gunfire.[67][69]
One of the injured was sitting in the bleachers on the left-hand side of the venue.[49] U.S. Representative Ronny Jackson said a bullet had grazed his nephew’s neck, drawing blood.[70]
Perpetrator
On July 14, the Federal Bureau of Investigation identified the shooter as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, which is about an hour’s drive from the rally venue where the shooting took place.[15][59][60] The rifle used by Crooks in the crime had been legally purchased by his father, according to law enforcement sources.[61] Crooks had attended Bethel Park High School and graduated in 2022.[62][63] He had no known criminal record.[64][60] The Pentagon found that he had no history of military service.[65] He worked in the kitchen of a nearby nursing home.[66] Some people who knew him characterized him as quiet, and a former classmate claimed he had often been bullied.[60]
Crooks was a registered Republican;[60][67][68] his voter registration had been active since September 2021, the month he turned 18.[69][60] Federal campaign-finance records show that, earlier that year, on January 20, 2021,[70][71] when he was 17,[72] he had donated $15 to the Progressive Turnout Project (a voter turnout group) through ActBlue (a donation platform for Democrats and progressive organizations).[73][63][74] Photos of Crooks’s body showed him wearing a shirt that appeared to be merchandise from Demolition Ranch, a YouTube channel popularizing firearms.[75][76]

Former President Donald Trump has broken his silence after he was rushed off a stage at a rally in Pennsylvania minutes after gun shots were heard on July 13. In video from the rally, the 78-year-old was seen ducking underneath the podium before Secret Service rushed to cover him. When he got up, he was seen with blood on the side of his head and ear but is reportedly safe and fine. The Secret Service confirmed in a post on X and that he is currently being “checked out at a local medical facility. “I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear,” the former president wrote on social media. “I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!” The shooter and a spectator from the rally are dead and two other people are in serious condition, per NBC News, in the video published on July 13, 2024, by Access Hollywood, as “Donald Trump Speaks Out After Being ‘Shot With a Bullet’ At Rally“, below:
