Florida Governor Ron DeSantis reacted strongly to a federal judge’s decision to block the state’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors. U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle’s ruling declared the law unconstitutional, criticizing it as being politically motivated and not based on legitimate medical interests. The judge pointed out that the law was driven by anti-transgender sentiment and lacked factual basis for claims made by its proponents (Yahoo News – Latest News & Headlines) (Politico) (The Independent).
In response, DeSantis’ office expressed disagreement with the ruling. Jeremy Redfern, a spokesperson for the governor, emphasized that the injunction was limited in scope, applying only to three children involved in the lawsuit, and reiterated DeSantis’ view that the treatments are irreversible and not scientifically supported (Politico).
