San Francisco’s downtown suffered an exodus of workers and businesses during the pandemic. These closures followed the disappearance or scaling back of some of the city’s most prominent corporate tenants like Facebook and Salesforce. But recently there have been small signs of a turnaround. With the AI boom hitting the Golden Gate City and new government policies helping streamline the permitting process for new businesses, San Francisco’s economy could be making a turn. WSJ explores whether these new city policies and fresh commercial interest can return San Francisco’s downtown to its former glory, in the video published on Oct 5, 2023, by The Wall Street Journal, as “The Rise, Fall and Possible Rise Again of San Francisco’s Downtown|WSJ“, below:
In this video, I traveled to San Francisco, where there’s been a lot of negative news surrounding the homeless population, the drug problem, and the car break-ins. I got to ask strangers a bunch of questions about their cost of living, whether or not the news about San Francisco were true, and a bunch of other spicy questions about life in SF, in the video published on Nov 13, 2023, by Charlie Chang, as “Asking San Franciscans WHY They Still Live There!“, below:
San Francisco Banks Are Closing in Record Numbers . Twenty bank branches closed across the city this year which is more than the previous two years combined and the most in a single year. Across the state, 277 bank branches have closed this year First, it was the March 10 failure of Silicon Valley Bank in Santa Clara, where depositors pulled their funds from what they feared was a sinking ship. Two days later, federal regulators shut down Signature Bank in New York over concerns that a panic-run was heading there next. Then Switzerland’s second largest bank, Credit Suisse, needed a government-arranged sale to avoid a similar insolvency crisis. And in May, the crisis boomeranged home First Republic Bank in San Francisco imploded from its inability to prepare for rising interest rates. Add in July’s dissolution of the small Heartland Tri-State Bank in Kansas, and four U.S. banks — two in the Bay Area collapsed this year, marking the second and third largest bank failures in American history and jeopardizing nearly $550 billion in assets, far more than the 2008 financial crisis did, in the video published on Dec 9, 2023, by METAL LEO, as “every bank is CLOSED in San Francisco“, below:
Restaurants bars and stores are disappearing from the streets of San Francisco from street conditions including traffic restrictions, making it impossible for businesses to survive, market Street was destroyed after banning all cars on market Street. Taking the stores and restaurants down one by one, in this video I’m walking Valencia and Mission Street to witness the devastation that street closings can cause Leave your comments about the current situation of stores, restaurants and all businesses, closing left and right, in the video published on Dec 15, 2023, by METAL LEO, as “every restaurant is CLOSED in San Francisco“, below:

San Francisco continues to face store closures as major retailers are leaving the once bustling city. The loss of businesses is the city’s latest obstacle alongside issues of drugs and homelessness. NBC News’ Jacob Ward reports, in the video published on June 23, 2023, by NBC News, as “San Francisco faces major store closures“, below:
San Francisco, for decades known around the world for its jazz, free love and beat poetry, has in recent years become notorious for a different reason. Tent encampments on its streets and open-air drug markets have become a reference point for the consequences of ultra-progressive policies. Florence Read and Freddie Sayers took a film crew (and an armed security guard) into the Tenderloin district to find out the truth for themselves. This special report includes remarkable interviews with city supervisor Dean Preston and Michael Shellenberger, author of San Fransicko, as well as drug users, locals and activists across the West. Their report dives into the ideological and practical battles at the heart of the story, and asks whether San Francisco today could be a harbinger of things to come across the Western world, in the video published on Dec 10, 2023, by UnHerd, as “The battle for San Francisco“, below:
The Reno area seems to be making large inroads when it comes to reducing and supporting its unhoused population. How did they do it and could San Francisco follow their path? ABC7 News visited the “Biggest Little City in the World” to learn more, in the video published on Dec 15, 2023, by ABC7 News Bay Area, as “What San Francisco can learn from Reno in reducing homelessness“, below:
