Tens of thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters descended upon Washington, D.C. on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 4, 2023, arriving at the White House to chant, “Allahu akbar” and “F–k Joe Biden” as they accused the president of genocide and demanded a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip (where thousands have been killed in an Israeli offensive since an attack by Palestinian Islamists Hamas).
According to NPR, on November 4, 2023, tens of thousands of people marched in Washington, D.C. to protest the 2023 Israel–Hamas war and push for a cease-fire in Gaza. The 2023 Israel–Hamas war began on October 7, 2023, when Palestinian militants from the Gaza Strip launched an invasion of southern Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched a large-scale invasion of the Gaza Strip on October 27, 2023.
“From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” the crowd dotted with Palestinian flags and signs cried at the start of the event, drawing attendees from across the country. The chant is growing increasingly popular in the wake of Hamas’ deadly incursion into southern Israel last month and Israel’s subsequent retaliatory attacks on Gaza; it is widely considered antisemitic because it implies the elimination of the State of Israel and its people.
