A man, identified as Kwon Pyong, believed to be a Chinese rights activist, has been arrested in South Korea after an attempt to flee from China on a jet ski. South Korean coast guard said the man had traveled about 300 km (186 miles) across the Yellow Sea using binocular and compass. Many pro-Beijing countries in Southeast Asia will no longer harbor asylum seekers from China. The noted Chinese human rights lawyer Lu Siwei was captured in Laos last month and returned to China before he was able to join his wife and children in the United States. Chinese embassy in Seoul declined to comment on Kwon Pyong.
South Korea’s coast guard said Kwon Pyong was wearing a life jacket and helmet and was towing five barrels of fuel from Shandong province behind the 1800 cc vehicle (jet ski).
