In a new state-of-the-art research center, the Vaccine Development and Evaluation Centre (VDEC) based in UK Health and Security Agency (UKHSA) science and defense technology campus Porton Down, near Salisbury in UK, a team of 200 scientists are preparing vaccines for a mysterious disease , Disease X, not yet identified but coined in 2018 to describe a theoretical virus warned by scientists that there would be more than 1/4 chance of occurring in the next global pandemic within the next decade. UK wants to be ready for it, therefore, Scientists in UK have been working on a vaccine to fend off Disease X. Global warming, dense population groups, as well as living closely to animals may all be contributing factors in increased chance for future pandemic.
One of the UK’s most secretive centres of scientific research – Porton Down – is aiming to stop the next pandemic “in its tracks”. Located in the Wiltshire countryside near Salisbury, UK, the new facility is one of the few places in the world equipped to research some of the most dangerous viruses and bacteria. The new vaccine research centre is concentrating on three main things: known infections that are getting harder to deal with, like antibiotic-resistant superbugs, potential threats like new Covid variants and “Disease X” – something unforeseen that takes the world by surprise, in the video published on Aug. 7, 2023, by BBC News, as “What is ‘Disease X’ and what are the plans to stop it? – BBC News“, below:
UK scientists have begun developing vaccines as insurance against a new pandemic caused by an unknown “Disease X”. The work is being carried out at the government’s high-security Porton Down laboratory complex in Wiltshire by a team of more than 200 scientists. They have drawn up a threat list of animal viruses that are capable of infecting humans and could in the future spread rapidly around the world. Sky News’ science correspondent Thomas Moore has witnessed the work being done, in the video published on Aug 7, 2023, by Sky News, as “Future Pandemics: New UK vaccine research centre to help scientists prepare for ‘Disease X’“, below:
A state-of-the-art vaccine research facility, where scientists will work to ensure future pandemics are stopped in their tracks, has been unveiled by the Government. The Vaccine Development and Evaluation Centre (VDEC) is based at the UK Health and Security Agency (UKHSA) science and defence technology campus Porton Down, near Salisbury. Live viruses will be kept on-site in specialist containment facilities, with researchers looking at pathogens that do not yet have a vaccine. Professor Dame Jenny Harries said: “What we’re trying to do now is capture that really excellent work from Covid and make sure we’re using that as we go forward for any new pandemic threats.” in the video published on Aug 7, 2023, by The Independent, as “Inside new vaccine centre launched in UK to help scientists prepare for ‘disease X’” below:
A state-of-the-art vaccine research facility, where scientists will work to ensure future pandemics are stopped in their tracks and do not cause the same disruption to everyday life as Covid-19, has been unveiled by the UK Government, in the video published on Aug 7, 2023, by The Mirror, as “Huge vaccine centre launched to bolster UK’s pandemic preparedness“, below:
