The CDC is warning about the spread of drug-resistant bacteria causing a spike in stomach illnesses that don’t respond to antibiotics. Symptoms of Shigellosis or having contracted Shigella:
- Fever
- Bloody diarrhea
- Severe stomach cramping or tenderness
- Dehydration
- Vomiting
So wash your hands with soap and water often and stay hydrated. Wipe down change tables and kitchen counters with antibacterial wipes before and after use. Avoid being in contact with person infected with Shigella until at least 2 days after his/her diarrhea has ended.
