Wow, it’s almost about as spooky as having Three Mile Island accident occurring in Pennsylvania on March 28, 1979, within twelve days after the release of the movie The China Syndrome (with fictional plot set in Los Angeles) on March 16, 1979, both dealing with nuclear reactor accident. Now we have the movie White Noise (involving a plot of a cataclysmic train accident in Ohio casting a cloud of chemical waste over the town), first streamed on December 30, 2022, forty days before the February 9, 2023 Ohio train carrying hazardous chemicals including vinyl chloride derailed and exploded, releasing hydrogen chloride and phosgene into the air. Is our reality imitating fiction?
At once hilarious and horrifying, lyrical and absurd, ordinary and apocalyptic, White Noise dramatizes a contemporary American family’s attempts to deal with the mundane conflicts of everyday life while grappling with the universal mysteries of love, death, and the possibility of happiness in an uncertain world. Based on the book by Don DeLillo, written for the screen and directed by Noah Baumbach, produced by Noah Baumbach (p.g.a) and David Heyman (p.g.a.). Produced by Uri Singer, in the video published on Nov 22, 2022, by Netflix, as “White Noise | Official Trailer | Netflix“, below:
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine ordered residents near the site of a massive train derailment in East Palestine to evacuate on Monday amid the risk of a ‘catastrophic’ explosion at the site and a planned control release of chemicals. DeWine warned residents closest to the site they face severe injury including skin burns and serious lung damage and are in “grave danger of death” if they did not evacuate ahead of the planned release of hazardous chemicals from the train. The train derailed near the border of Ohio and Pennsylvania on Friday night, causing a massive fire in the area. Fire, police and hazmat teams responded from three different states to control the massive blaze. No one was injured. Fears of a wider health and environmental disaster are growing, after a 150-car freight train operated by Norfolk Southern derailed and a so-called controlled burn released toxic chemicals last week in East Palestine, Ohio. Residents reported seeing a fireball and mushroom cloud of smoke fill the skyline. Data released by the Environmental Protection Agency shows the train contained more toxic and carcinogenic chemicals than initially reported, including phosgene, a poisonous gas that has been used as a chemical weapon in war. Officials lifted an evacuation order for residents last Wednesday, saying the air and water were safe, but residents have reported sore throats, burning eyes and respiratory problems, and wildlife has been found dead. Meanwhile, scrutiny has turned onto Norfolk Southern, which in recent years has challenged regulatory laws aimed at making the rail industry safer and made mass cuts to railroad staffing while spending billions on stock buybacks and executive compensation. We get an update from Emily Wright, community organizer based near the site of the derailment; Ross Grooters, a locomotive engineer and co-chair of Railroad Workers United; and Julia Rock, an investigative reporter with The Lever, in the video published on Feb 14, 2023, by Democracy Now!, as ““Bomb Train” in Ohio Sickens Residents: Railroad Cutbacks, Corporate Greed Led to Toxic Disaster“, below:
In eastern Ohio, residents have been on edge for over a week following an explosive train derailment and a toxic chemical leak. Evacuation orders have been lifted and the all-clear has been given in East Palestine, a small community of about 5,000 on the Pennsylvania border, but that’s done little to calm anxieties. Geoff Bennett discussed the toxic crash with Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, in the video published on Feb 13, 2023, by PBS NewsHour, as “Release of toxic chemicals from train derailment in Ohio prompts broader safety“, below:
The video is raising questions about when the crew knew there was a problem, in the video published on Feb 10, 2023, by CBS Pittsburgh, as “Video shows sparks or flames 20 miles before train derailment in East Palestine“, below:
