Ukrainian President Zelenskyy made a surprise visit to Kherson after it was retaken from Russia. Jubilation in the streets has been almost non-stop since the Russians fled late last week. But after almost eight months of occupation, accounts of brutality mirror the experiences of many other Ukrainians freed from Russian control. Special correspondent Jack Hewson and videographer Ed Ram report, in the video published on Nov. 14, 2022, by PBS NewsHour, as “Zelenskyy makes surprise visit to Kherson after city freed from Russian control“, below:
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenksy has visited Kherson, days after his troops recaptured it following Russia’s withdrawal. The president sang the national anthem with soldiers and residents as the Ukrainian flag was raised. The recapture of the Kherson was the “beginning of the end of the war,” Zelenksy said. Russia took the southern city in March, weeks after the invasion began. Losing it is a major setback for Russia – though Moscow insists it remains Russian territory, in the video published on Nov. 14, 2022, by BBC News, as “Ukraine’s President Zelensky visits liberated Kherson – BBC News“, below:
The Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy has visited the newly retaken city of Kherson, thanking troops and residents for their courage, and singing the Ukrainian anthem as his country’s flag was raised. “We are ready for peace, for the whole country” he said – warning there was still a long and difficult path ahead. Kherson was captured in March just weeks after Russia’s full scale invasion, the only regional capital which Moscow managed to occupy. But with their supply lines increasingly cut off, Russian forces were forced to abandon the city – fleeing to the other side of the Dnipro river, in the video published on Nov. 14, 2022, by Channel 4 News, as “Ukraine war: Zelenskyy tells soldiers ‘we are moving forward, we are ready for peace’“, below:

The Ukrainian president was speaking after the city and surrounding region were liberated on Friday. Russian forces destroyed much of the physical infrastucture before pulling out, but for residents, the main thing is that they’re gone, in the video published on Nov. 14, 2022, by DW News, as “What is Russia’s next move after Kherson pullout?| DW News“, below:
