Gov. Ron DeSantis denounced the Biden administration for refusing “to lift a finger” in securing the U.S. border with Mexico in defending his decision to fly planes carrying migrants on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, to Martha’s Vineyard. Declaring that Florida is not a sanctuary state, DeSantis said during a news conference Thursday morning that leaders have worked on “innovative ways” to shield the state from President Joe Biden’s failed border policies. One was using a portion of the state’s latest budget that included $12 million to establish a program within the Department of Transportation to “facilitate the transport” of undocumented persons out of Florida. “If you have folks that are inclined to think Florida is a good place, our message to them is we are not a sanctuary state, and it’s better to be able to go to a sanctuary jurisdiction and, yes, we will help facilitate that transport for you to be able to go to greener pastures,” said DeSantis, responding to a reporter’s question, in the video published on Sep 15, 2022, “DeSantis sends migrant flights to Martha’s Vineyard, says Florida is not a sanctuary state“, below:

“States like Massachusetts, New York, and California will better facilitate the care of these individuals who they have invited into our country by incentivizing illegal immigration...through their designation as “sanctuary states” and support for the Biden Administration’s open border policies.”
Florida Governor DeSantis is inspired by Texas Governor Abbott who had bused more than 10,000 migrants to New York City, Washington D.C., and Chicago since April 2022. As a matter of fact, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker issued an emergency disaster proclamation, activating 75 members of the state’s national guards to set up food and housing services.
Statement From Manny Diaz, Florida Democratic Chair, has Democrats’ response to transporting migrants, in italics, below:
“There is nothing that DeSantis won’t do, and nobody that he won’t hurt, in order to score political points. He took dozens of families and children, reportedly from Venezuela and Colombia, away from everyone that they know, flew them across the country, and left them by the side of the road without shelter or direction – all in order to score political points.”
At least two planes with undocumented immigrants were sent from Florida to Martha’s Vineyard, according to a statement from Gov. Ron DeSantis’ communications director. The arrival of the migrants left Massachusetts state officials scrambling to find them shelter. WBTS’s Oscar Margain reports, in the video published on Sep 15, 2022, “Florida Gov. DeSantis Flies Two Planes Of Migrants To Martha’s Vineyard“, below:
Massachusetts Rep. Bill Keating says Governor Ron DeSantis’ “stunt” of chartering a private plane to fly migrants to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts on tax payer dollars is “just not the way to treat human beings.” in the video published on Sep 15, 2022, “Massachusetts Rep: DeSantis shipped migrants ‘for his own political benefit’“, below:

Susan Church, a Massachusetts-based immigration attorney, talks with Alex Wagner about potential laws broken by Ron DeSantis in abruptly flying 50 migrants to Martha’s Vineyard, and why a quirk of Massachusetts immigration law could make DeSantis’ inhumane stunt the reason these migrants are allowed to stay in the U.S., in the video published on Sep 17, 2022, “Victims Of DeSantis’ Cruel Migrant Plane Prank Appear To Have Law On Their Side“, below:
