China’s New Solar Power Capacity Reduces Blackouts During Heatwave
Dear Friends & Neighbors,

According to the honorary chairman of the China Photovoltaic Industry Association, Wang Bohua, total solar power capacity of China now stands at 340 GW, up 25.8% from last year.
On July 21, 2022, an industry group said that China built nearly 31 GW (gigawatts) of new solar power capacity from January to June of 2022, up 137% from a year earlier, with full- year installations on course to hit a record high.
Total installations this year are expected to be between 75 GW and 90GW in 2022, according to Wang, breaking 2021’s record of 54.9 GW.
China, the world’s biggest polluter, has committed to reach net zero emissions by 2060, an ambitious goal matched by enormous investments that are reshaping the nation’s energy system, in the video published on March 15, 2022, “How China Plans to Win the Future of Energy“, below:
These solar installations would certainly help to moderate blackouts in China resulting from heatwave pushing electricity usage to record levels, in the video published on July 26, 2022, “Blackouts in China as heatwave pushes electricity usage to record levels“, below:
On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, Chinese county hit a record high temperature of 44 degrees Celsius. Shanghai has declared another rare extreme heat warning and issued 3 red alerts in 5 days, in the video published on July 14, 2022, “WION Climate Tracker: Chinese county breaks temperature record, workers endure scorching heat“, below:
In the video published on June 28, 2022, “Searing heatwave scorches China, pushing temperature to 42 degree C“, below:
If China had not been aggressively installing solar during the past one and half years, the blackouts would have been dramatically worse.
