As the Jan. 6th committee prepares for its primetime hearing on Thursday, we learn two former Trump White House officials will be key witnesses. It comes as the panel hopes to get its hands on the deleted Secret Service text messages as early as Tuesday. Plus, Steve Bannon’s contempt of Congress trial begins. And another Trump ally, Rep. Jody Hice, gets subpoenaed in Georgia’s 2020 election investigation, in the video published on July 19, 2022, “Critical Week For Jan. 6th Committee“, below:
Lawmakers on the January 6th Committee have already accused Donald Trump of failing to call off the Capitol insurrection for hours. The coming Thursday, July 21, 2022, will be the last day and final hearing of January 6 Congressional Select Committee Hearings: Attack On The United States Capitol.
Overnight, the House January 6th committee subpoenaed the Secret Service over erased text messages from the day of the attack on the Capitol and the day before. In a letter to Congress, the Inspector General claimed the messages were erased after his office “requested records of electronic communications.” The Secret Service said some texts were wiped out during a planned cell phone migration, but that none requested by the Inspector General were lost, in the video published on July 16, 2022, “Jan. 6 Committee Issues Subpoena To Secret Service Over Erased Text Messages“, below:
Rachel Maddow looks at the Justice Department’s request for a “domestic terrorism” enhancement to the sentencing of the first convicted January 6th rioter, which would potentially add several years to the sentence if the judge agrees, and notes the message that sends to other defendants who decide to risk conviction rather than take a plea, in the video published on July 19, 2022, “DOJ Sends Message With ‘Domestic Terrorism’ Enhancement For Jan. 6 Sentencing“, below:
New reports show the Secret Service erased text messages from the day of and day before the Jan. 6th insurrection. However, the Secret Service assures it wasn’t maliciously deleted and that it was part of a pre-planned phone reset. Meantime, the Jan. 6th committee weighs whether to push for interviews with Donald Trump and Mike Pence. Plus, Trump’s first wife Ivana is found dead in her Manhattan home at the age of 73, in the video published on July 15, 2022, “Watchdog: Secret Service Deletes Jan. 6 Texts“, below:
The U.S. Secret Service is accused of deleting text messages from before and during the Capitol attack after investigators requested them. CBS News congressional correspondent Nikole Killion joined Anne-Marie Green and Vladimir Duthiers with the latest on this and other news from Capitol Hill, in the video published on July 15, 2022, “Secret Service accused of deleting texts from before and during Jan. 6 Capitol attack“, below:
