A bill, S.4132: Women’s Health Protection Act of 2022, aimed to protect abortion rights failed to advance in a 49-51 Senate vote with one Democrat joining all 50 Republicans to block it. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called it “one of the most consequential” votes the Senate has held in decades, in the video published on May 11, 2022, “Senate Fails To Advance Dem-Led Bill Keeping Abortion Legal Nationwide“, below:

Republican Senators Collins and Murkowski are working on a more narrow version of the bill and there’s reporting that tomorrow the Supreme Court Justices will meet for the first time since the leak of the draft opinion. Plus new developments in the 2020 election probes and a judge lifts contempt order against Trump, in the video published on May 12, 2022, “Senate Fails To Pass Abortion Rights Bill“, below:
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer blasted the failed vote Wednesday by the chamber to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, which sought to make abortion legal throughout the U.S. by codifying the Roe v. Wade court ruling into law. Schumer said the vote “makes it crystal clear” the contrast between Democrats and Republicans ahead of the midterm elections. “Elect more pro-choice Democrats if you want to see a woman have control over her own body,” he said. “Elect more MAGA (Make America Great Again) Republicans if you want to see a nationwide ban on abortion.” The legislation would have required 60 votes to pass the filibuster rule but Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin joined all 50 Republicans in voting against it 49-51. Republicans, however, criticized the bill with Sen. Ben Sasse questioning where was the tolerance and compassion in putting forward the bill. Sen. John Cornyn also said the bill was the “Abortion on Demand Act,” one without limitations or restrictions. “Where is the attempt to understand that the majority of Americans want there to be prohibitions on abortions at some point in the pregnancy,” Sasse said. “Americans don’t want that kind of radicalism we see in this bill before us today.” Vice-President Kamala Harris, after the vote, expressed her disappointment, saying that “the Senate failed to stand in defence of a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body.” in the video published on May 11, 2022, “Democrats blast failed US Senate vote on abortion rights, GOP say bill is “without limitations”“, below:
Senate Republicans have blocked a bill that would enshrine abortion rights into federal law, in the video published on May 11, 2022, “Senate vote on abortion fails“, below:
The Senate failed to advance a bill protecting abortion rights nationwide after Republicans opposed it. The Democratic-led effort to protect abortion access on the federal level comes after a draft Supreme Court majority opinion indicated the high court may overturn Roe v. Wade. CBS News congressional correspondent Scott MacFarlane reports, in the video published on May 12, 2022, “Senate fails to pass abortion protections into law“, below:
Although they knew it was doomed from the start, U.S. Senate Democrats have failed to pass a vote to protect the country’s abortion rights, as a potential Supreme Court decision overturning the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling approaches. The Senate bill, which would have codified the 50-year-old court ruling as federal law among other guarantees to access, needed 60 votes to pass an automatic filibuster. But the final tally came to 49 in favour and 51 against in the evenly divided Senate. And as Jackson Proskow reports, Republicans are already hinting at, if they get their way, a national ban on a woman’s right to choose, in the video published on May 11, 2022, “US Senate vote fails to pass abortion rights bill as potential Roe v. Wade overturn looms“, below:
A bill aimed at codifying abortion rights into federal law, failed in a 49-51 vote with Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin voting with Republicans, in the video published on May 11, 2022, “Sen. Joe Manchin votes with Republicans to kill abortion rights bill |USA Today“, below:
The Senate is expected to vote Wednesday on whether to codify abortion rights into federal law. The bill is expected to fail with Democrats falling short of the 60 votes they need to break a Republican filibuster. CBS News Washington reporter Caitlin Huey-Burns discusses why Democrats are pushing forward with the vote anyway, in the video published on May 11, 2022, “Senate Democrats push to codify abortion rights into federal law“, below:
A bill to establish a federal law guaranteeing the right to an abortion failed in the Senate, in the video published on May 11, 2022, “Abortion Rights fight on Capitol Hill|Senate bill fails“, below:
The US Senate has failed to pass legislation protecting abortion rights. Senators voted 49 to 51 to reject the democrat-sponsored legislation – which would enshrine abortion rights into federal law. All 50 Republican Senators voted against the bill – which needed the backing of at least 60 Senators to pass. West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin also controversially voted against the measure. The bill was introduced after a leaked Supreme Court draft opinion – showed the landmark ruling upholding abortion rights nationwide, may soon be overturned, in the video published on May 11, 2022, “US Senate fails to pass abortion rights bill“, below:
Frank Schaeffer once produced propaganda films that helped launch the Christian right. Now he feels regret for what he calls an ‘anti-family’ movement, in the video published on May 4, 2022, “Why this former anti-abortion activist regrets the movement he helped build“, below:
Steinem has fought for women’s rights all her life. She has been at the forefront of defending Roe v. Wade since the beginning. She sees the Supreme Court ruling as a threat not just to women, but to American democracy, in the video published on May 3, 2022, “Gloria Steinem Reacts to SCOTUS Roe v. Wade Draft|Amanpour and Company“, below:
