The first European country to abandon Russian gas has been announced! It has been reported that Lithuania has completely stopped buying natural gas from Russia since the beginning of this month. Lithuanian Energy Minister Dainius Kreivys described the halting of gas imports from Russia as “a turning point in Lithuania’s energy history”. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda shared on his Twitter account, “From this month, there is no longer Russian gas in Lithuania. Years ago, my country made decisions that today allowed us to cut energy relations with the aggressor without any problems. If we can do it, the rest of Europe can do it too.” used the phrases. The first country to abandon Russian gas has been announced! It has been reported that Lithuania has completely stopped buying natural gas from Russia since the beginning of this month. Lithuanian Energy Minister Dainius Kreivys described the halting of gas imports from Russia as “a turning point in Lithuania’s energy history”. Stating that they are the first European country to abandon Russian gas, Kreivys said that this is the result of consistent energy policies carried out for years and timely infrastructure decisions. In the statement made on the website of the Ministry of Energy of Lithuania, it was stated that gas imports from Russia were stopped in response to Russia’s “energy blackmail” in Europe and the war in Ukraine, and the data of Amber Grid company, which provides Russian gas flow to the country through Belarus, showed zero as of April 2. It was stated that all of the country’s gas needs are met through liquefied natural gas (LNG), and it was noted that the planning regarding the amount of natural gas to be imported in the coming months and the routes through which the said gas will be brought to the country was made with the Klaipedos Nafta company, which operates the LNG terminal. It was stated that natural gas can be imported to the country via Latvia and Poland as of May 1, if needed, in the video published on April 3, 2022, “The first country to abandon Russian gas has been announced!“, below:
European sanctions on Russia amid its invasion of Ukraine have caused harm to the Russian economy, but in return, Russian gas prices have soared across the world, in the video published on March 30, 2022, “Germany activates emergency fuel plan amid fears of Russian gas supply cuts“, below:
The flow of natural gas from Russia to Europe has been cut off Transportation of gas from the Russian Federation to Europe via the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline (from Belarus and Poland to Germany) to Europe from Malnov (Germany) has dropped to zero. However, it is not yet known why the flow of natural gas was cut off. Flows on the other two main pipeline routes have remained generally stable. According to other information, the supply of Russian gas to Europe via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline and the Velke-Kapusani (Slovakia) station has remained generally stable. It should be noted that Russia has decided to transfer payments for gas supplies to Europe in rubles as soon as possible. However, in a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Emmanuel Macron said that it was impossible to pay for gas in rubles, in the video published on March 30, 2022, “The flow of natural gas from Russia to Europe has been cut off“, below:
Russian gas flowed into Europe on Friday, while European gas prices continued to rise, as firms grappled with President Vladimir Putin’s threat to cut off supplies unless they paid in roubles. FRANCE 24’s International Affairs Commentator Douglas Herbert tells us more, in the video published on April 1, 2022, “Gas still flows from Russia to Europe as buyers navigate Putin’s rouble order .
