A recent article, published on March 16, 2022, in BMJ (British Medical Journal), titled The illusion of evidence based medicine, by Jon Jureidini (of Robinson Research Institute , University of Adelaide) and Leemon B. McHenry (professor emeritus of California State University), is both disturbing and not entirely surprising. According to this article, evidence-based medicine has been corrupted by corporate interests, profits, failed regulation or regulatory authorities, and commercialization of academia. The article does not point to specific example for criticism, but concludes that such corruptions lead to generalized distrust by the public in many things. In the topic of commercialization of academia, authors of the article argue that academia needs to be for the pure pursuit of truth, but commercialization of academia tends to deviate from such pursuits.
