President Joe Biden announced on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at the White House that the U.S. will ban all imports of Russian oil, natural gas and coal in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Watch his remarks in this CBS News Special Report, anchored by Gayle King, in the video published on March 8, 2022, “Biden targets “main artery” of Russia’s economy by banning energy imports | Special Report“, below:
United States does produce more oil than all of the European nations combined. In fact, U.S. is net exporter of energy. U.S. is now working on a long term strategy with European allies to reduce European dependence on Russian oil, natural gas, and coal. Defending freedom is bipartisan goal. Thusfar, U.S. has provided more than $1 billion in security assistance to Ukraine. U.S. will also keep commitments to NATO and share the responsibility in caring for the refugees. Russian economy has cratered as a result of the sanctions and its ability to do business has also been dramatically impacted. A growing list of global companies have suspended their businesses in Russia.
