Starting from Friday, January 28, 2022, stores, pharmacies, and health centers such as Winn-Dixie, Walgreens, Publix, and CVS will be giving out free N95 masks as part of the Biden administration’s mask distribution program. Each person may get up to three N95 masks. These free N95 masks are of the highest level protection against COVID-19, slowing down the spread of coronavirus. N95 masks are designed to filter out 95% of the particulate matter. President Biden has committed to distributing 400 million N95 masks to all Americans, in the video published on Jan 26, 2022, “Free N95 masks hit Central Florida pharmacies“, below:

The best way for hospitals to disinfect N95 masks of coronavirus particles is to use moist heat, around 40-50% relative humidity, in combination with UV light, according to University of Michigan researchers. Another method using hydrogen peroxide also works, but is harder to scale up. University of Michigan engineers and clinicians have been working quickly to address the shortage of N95 masks in hospitals by developing efficient, effective and scalable ways of disinfecting masks, which are typically discarded after one use, in the video published on Mar 8, 2021, “Using moist heat to clean N95 masks for use during COVID-19 pandemic“, below:
A small amount of methylene blue, with a large dose of sunlight or bright light, is all that’s needed to inactivate the coronavirus on N95 masks. These are the gold standard for masks among health-care workers. This method also works on some other personal protection equipment, or PPE, so needed by medical workers, a new study released December 11 concluded. The findings were part of a 6-month-long DeMaND study (Development of Methods for Mask and N95 Decontamination), which involves researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, from the World Health Organization, and from 12 institutions, including the University of Washington School of Medicine and Seattle Children’s Research Institute. “This is a valuable tool to health-care workers in low or medium-income countries, who don’t have access to either refrigeration or highly technical means of sterilization,” said Dr. Thomas Lendvay, lead author of the study. Lendvay is a UW Medicine urologist and also a pediatric urologist with Seattle Children’s Hospital, in the video published on Dec 24, 2020, “Researchers find cheap, easy way to disinfect N95 masks“, below:
Experts say this is not recommended for health care workers but it can help extend the life of a mask, in the video published on Jan 10, 2022, “VERIFY: Can you sanitize KN95 and N95 masks by using brown paper bag?” below:
