A year ago, former President Donald Trump encouraged thousands of his supporters at a rally outside the White House to march to the Capitol to protest the confirmation of Biden as the next president. Trump had repeatedly vowed never to concede to Biden, backed dozens of failed lawsuits and flooded his Twitter account with baseless claims of voter fraud. Twitter permanently suspended his account after the riot. Former Vice President Mike Pence, who had been presiding over the count of Electoral College votes, was rushed out of the Senate as Trump supporters poured into the Capitol complex. Hours after protesters besieged the Capitol, Trump told supporters in a tweeted video from the White House “you have to go home now.” He did not condemn the violence and continued to falsely claim he won the election. A day later, Trump acknowledged for the first time President-elect Joe Biden’s administration and said in a three-minute video that “a new administration will be inaugurated on January 20th.” President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris delivered remarks Thursday marking one year since the deadly Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol., in the video streamed on Jan 6, 2022, “LIVE: U.S. marks the anniversary of deadly Jan 6. attack on the Capitol – 1/6/2022“, below:
Below is a reminder for my friends who are worried: January 6, 2021, was an inflection point in American history, either leading to the abyss or overcoming and ascending into a new human reality of greater fairness and justice, by the coming together of men and women who have enough faith in the American Experiment, to overcome all fears, as in the video published on March 19, 2017, “We Shall Overcome Lyndon B Johnson“, below:
In the video published on Jan 29, 2008, ““We Shall Overcome” – Martin Luther King, Jr.”” below:
The American people have overcome the fear of “Selma to Montgomery marches” in 1965 during the Civil Rights Movement. The American people will overcome the fear toward January 6. There is hope.
