As we are all forewarned about the Omicron surge that may continue for the next four to six weeks, let’s take a look at what other precautions we might want to consider taking in addition to vaccinations and wearing masks to protect ourselves against the latest COVID variant, Omicron.
Dr. Michael Osterholm, Vaughn Hillyard, and Priscilla Thompson join Alison Morris to discuss the skyrocketing numbers of Covid cases across the U.S. that pose immense challenges going into the new year, a public health crisis that Dr. Osterholm expects to last for “the next four to six weeks.” He says patients are generally “less severely ill with Omicron than Delta, but the sheer number of patients makes up for that,” compounded by an “absentee of 10-20% of healthcare workers in an industry that is already hanging on by the skin of its teeth.” in the video published on Dec 31, 2021, “Omicron Surge Will Be ‘Difficult For The Next Four To Six Weeks’: Dr. Osterholm“, below:
Surging COVID-19 infections are worrying governments around the globe. France has posted a record number of infections, more 200,000 in a single day. Italy, Ireland and Portugal have also announced record numbers of new cases. Officials say the skyrocketing infection rates are being driven by the highly contagious omicron variant. While countries are still grappling with rising case numbers, health authorities are also under pressure to reduce the isolation requirements for people infected, or in contact with a positive case. The US recently shortened its quarantine period, and Germany’s health minister says he’s considering a similar move, in the video published on Dec 30, 2021, “WHO warns of a “tsunami” of infections | Coronavirus latest“, below:
Does colder temperature make you more prone to getting a cold Or COVID? Most health experts agree that people spend more time indoors and close contact with other people when it’s cold, which increases germs spread. Also, experts believe that our immune system may be more active when our body is warmer, as in during the summer months, in the video published on March 9, 2021, “Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Zinc and COVID – Prevention of COVID“, below:
