Recently, my family chose The Unforgivable to view on Netflix during one of our weekend family movie viewing. The director and protagonist played by Sandra Bullock did such a phenomenal job in bringing about the emotional crescendo, culminating at the final end, that all of us found it to be a moving and tear-jerking experience. Afterward, we were all relived to find that it was not a docudrama but pure fiction. To quote the character Raj of the Big Bang Theory (in Season 4, Episode 8) , “…You know Sandy B always brings it.”
The Unforgivable is a 2021 drama film directed by Nora Fingscheidt and written by Peter Craig, Hillary Seitz and Courtenay Miles,[2] based on the 2009 British miniseries Unforgiven written by Sally Wainwright. The film stars Sandra Bullock as a woman who attempts to rebuild her life after serving time in prison for committing a violent crime. It also stars Vincent D’Onofrio, Jon Bernthal, Richard Thomas, Linda Emond, Aisling Franciosi, Rob Morgan, and Viola Davis.
An American-German co-production, the film is produced by Bullock, Graham King and Veronica Ferres. Filming began in Vancouver in February 2020 and, after halting due to the COVID-19 pandemic, concluded in October. It was released in a limited release on November 24, 2021, prior to streaming on Netflix on December 10, 2021.
Released from prison after serving a sentence for a violent crime, Ruth Slater (Sandra Bullock) re-enters a society that refuses to forgive her past. Facing severe judgment from the place she once called home, her only hope for redemption is finding the estranged younger sister she was forced to leave behind.
