On Friday morning, November 19, 2021, chaos occurred after an armored truck dropped loads of cash on Interstate 5 in Carlsbad, California. According to California Highway Patrol Sgt. Curtis Martin, the truck had departed from San Diego and was enroute to a Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. office. “One of the doors popped open and bags of cash fell out.” Sgt. Martin told San Diego Tribune reporter, “One of the bags broke apart, and there was cash all over the lanes.” Footage of the incident shows motorists pulling over, exiting their cars, and pocketing some of the money. Social media influencer Demi Bagby showed in her video that drivers and passengers on the freeway scrambling to get their hands on bills, mostly of the $1’s and $20’s.
Demi Bagby said, “This is the most insane thing I’ve ever seen. Some one dropped money all over the freeway…San Diego has shut down. Literally it has shut down…literally every one stopped on the freeway…This is insane.”
Money — a lot of it — fell from an armored car and littered the freeway in Carlsbad on Friday morning, and several drivers pulled over and started scooping it up, in the video published on Nov 19, 2021, “Armored car drops cash on I-5 in Carlsbad“, below:
Law enforcement did not indicate how much money was spilled on the freeway. Two people were arrested on suspicion of grabbing money that flew from an armored truck traveling on Interstate 5 in California.
