I cannot resist sharing another video from that lovely channel on green living and sustainable living, in the video published on April 12, 2021, “#37 Reduce Waste at Home: 36 Easy Tips | Sustainability Starts from Home“, below:
Most of these tips mentioned in the video above are also part of my habits in daily life, developed or practiced over years. It’s the little things in our daily lives that would add up to make a big difference if we all practice these habits.
- Whenever possible, always buy or use used instead of new stuffs
- Avoid using single-use or disposable plastic bags. If you must buy new, invest in quality
- DIY as much as possible
- Composting food waste using Bokashi method
- Ditched the garbage liner and use naked trash bins only
- Make a meal plan and buy only what you need to reduce waste
- Store food properly to lengthen their life
- Buy your food at local farmers market where groceries are mostly not wrapped in any packaging or plastic
- Grow your own food as much as possible
- Build a versatile wardrobe that fits your style and stick to it (instead of being trendy)
- Use shampoo & soap bar instead of liquid soap in plastic containers
- Say no to disposable straw & cutlery, cup…
- Store leftovers in glass containers
- Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle…in that order
- Say no to plastic beverage bottles
- Stop using single use coffee capsules
- Read ebooks
- Reduce eating packaged frozen foods by baking and cooking ourselves more and more
- Repurpose the unavoidable food container
- Reuse egg cartons to grow microgreens, milk carton to sow seeds, glass jars to store dried foods
- Drink loose leaf tea instead of tea bags
- Preserve food by: pickling, drying, fermenting, freezing, salt curing,
- Buy supplies in bulk
- Making kitchen stuff (sauces, condiments, etc) at home
- Making cleaning products at home (at 4:18 in the video below published on Jan 21, 2021, “#29 Cultivate your home | How to Create a Cleaning Schedule that Works“, below:
- Use reusable rags and cloths for cleaning
- Opt for reusable hygiene products
- Buy litters for our cats that are made 100% from plant fibers
- Sell/Giveaway/Donate old stuff
- Keep minimal medication supply so that don’t expire before use
- Learn to make natural remedies that work (please refer to the video published on Nov 19, 2020, “#22 Scent of Foraging Seasons | Baking Chestnut Cake | Homemade Ivy Laundry Detergent” below:
- Go digital: use electronic bills, documents and statements
- Reducing meat consumption
- Unsubscribe to all retailers in order to avoid over-consumption
- If shopping online, let the company know that you prefer sustainable packaging that can be repurposed
- Toss the sponge and use cleaning brush or reusable cloth & don’t make waste reduction at home complicated & introduce the big and hard changes gradually
