Throughout human history, there had been natural as well as man-made disasters that required humans to relocate in order to survive. With the advent of climate change, there will be more and more climate refugees as well as political or religious refugees. The journey up North from Central America and Haiti is often fraught with peril. It would be much safer for many not to have to travel so far. It is a difficult task for any governing body to try to protect one’s own culture, value system, and stability while maintaining a humane attitude. Nevertheless, the task needs to be completed.
The former acting commissioner for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) fears the latest caravan of migrants that is trekking through Southern Mexico could spell security problems throughout the United States’ southern border. Mark Morgan’s comments come as about 3,000 migrants have spent four days together traveling by foot in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas in an effort to reach Mexico City and petition the administration of President Andréa Manuel López Obrador to grant them the necessary permits in order to freely move to in the country. The group, called by organizers the ‘Madre Caravana’ or ‘Mother Caravan,’ has one objective: to reach the Mexico-United States border and ask President Joe Biden’s administration for asylum, in the video published on Oct 27, 2021, “Thousands of migrants march in a massive caravan towards the US“, below:
Migrants have filled the streets of Mexican town Huixtla, turning them into a makeshift camp, as well as using a nearby river to wash clothes, in the video published on Oct 27, 2021, “Members of a migrant caravan en route to the US border sleep on Huixtla’s streets“, below:
Thomas Feeley, former director of NY ICE removals, warns the caravan of migrants is already demonstrating that they won’t follow laws and says the ongoing crisis is what the Biden administration wants, in the video published on Oct 25, 2021, “Migrant caravan pushed through Mexican forces to get to US border“, below:
Thousands of migrants and refugees have set off on foot from southern Mexico – in the hope of making it to the United States. The group is mainly made up of Haitians and Central Americans, who have been stranded in southern Mexico for months. There were minor scuffles as they pushed past state police, who were trying to stop them. Al Jazeera’s John Holman reports from Mexico City, in the video published on Oct 24, 2021, “Thousands of migrants, refugees set off from Mexico to US“, below:
