England is now the first country in the world to require all new homes to have EV chargers. The British government is introducing legislation in 2021 requiring all newly built homes and offices to feature “smart” charging devices for electric vehicles. These “smart” charging devices would automatically charge vehicles during off-peak hours. New office blocks will need to install a charge point for every five parking spaces. This new law will also boost confidence for British home owners in transitioning from gas cars since many homes in England do not have off-street parking or garages.

With the marketing for electric vehicles starting to boom more and more houses will require EV chargers fitting. For some properties, this is a simple electrical installation project. For this house it isn’t. Join us for a new series in which we explore the electrical installation challenges, in the video published on Feb. 14, 2021, “Are ELECTRIC CAR chargers EASY to install? – join us a new electrical installation series“, below:
This newly proposed legislation is part of the movement to rapidly boost the number of chargers across England ahead of the UK’s 2030 ban of new fossil-fuel vehicles. According to Electrek’s report in 2019, British government originally announced a proposal to mandate that all new homes have a charge point with a parking space. The home and office EV charger mandate is expected to start in 2022.

Flexible charging at home and at workplace during the day is going to be crucial to decarbonizing not just transport but the UK’s entire energy system.
As will better energy efficiency, electrified heating and solar power on 13.5 million homes – we hope to see all these as part of the plans for new homes, too.
A home EV charger installation is a trade-off between where you can park an electric car and where the power supply to the property is located, in the video published on May 31, 2021, “ZAPPI EV CHARGER installation UK – IT WASN’T easy – find out WHY“, below:
