Last week, CNN obtained the disturbing memo, written by John Eastman, one of Trump’s lawyers, between Election Day in 2020 and January 6, 2021, plotting the next American coup. John Eastman proposed that then-Vice President Mike Pence could overturn the election results during the joint session of Congress and give Trump a second term. Trump used Eastman’s arguments to try to convince Pence to carry out the scheme. Mike Pence would not agree to carry out John Eastman’s plan (aka Eastman Memo) to overturn the election after consulting former Vice President Dan Quayle, who emphatically told Pence that he had no power to exclude electoral votes. Pence’s refusal to comply drew Trump’s fury. Subsequently, Trump incited the mob and the mob attacked the Capitol on January 6, 2021, ending the two-century tradition of peaceful transitions of American presidential power.
