According to a new report from the UK’s Office of National Statistics, an estimated 94.2% of the adult population of England, 93.2% in Wales, 89.1% in Northern Ireland and 93.5% in Scotland have tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies in the week beginning July 26, 2021. The presence of antibodies means a person either previously had and recovered from COVID-19 or has been vaccinated.
Roughly 80.7% of England’s population has been fully vaccinated, suggesting the rest of the 94.2% acquired antibodies through natural infection with the coronavirus.
This is great news for England, where COVID-19 rates plateau at roughly 25,000 cases per day. Mortality rates have remained extremely low, with a seven-day average of 81 COVID-19 fatalities daily. UK was one of the hardest hit country for CVOID-19 with over 6.36 million cases and more than 131,000 deaths since the start of the pandemic. This new report out of UK should lift many people’s spirit, seeing light at the end of the tunnel.
