At least 58 Texas House Democrats fled to Washington, D.C. to avoid voting in the state’s special legislative session on Republican-backed voting bills. The lawmakers risk arrest by stopping the session, but are leaving the state to avoid state troopers and rangers, in the video published on July 12, 2021, “Texas Dems Flee State To Avoid Voting In Special Legislative Session“, below:

Texas two voting bills pushed by GOP lawmaker: Senate Bill 1 and House Bill 3
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) on Monday, July 12, 2021, said the Democratic lawmakers who left the state earlier that day to deny Republicans a quorum to convene a special legislative session and consider a sweeping elections reform bill will be arrested upon their return to the Lone Star State. A majority of Texas House Democrats fled the state on a charter flight bound for Washington, D.C., on Monday in an effort to stop the passage of a measure that would overhaul the state’s election procedures, in addition to other controversial priorities backed by Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R), during a special legislative session, in the video published on July 13, 2021, “Abbott says Democratic lawmakers will be arrested when they return to Texas“, below:
The Texas House of Representatives voted to have absentee Democratic members arrested by law enforcement if they don’t return, in the video published on July 13, 2021, “Texas House Votes To Have Law Enforcement Officers Arrest Absent Democrats If They Don’t Return“, below:

Out of options in Austin, Texas House Democrats flew to Washington, D.C. on July 12 to press Congress to pass federal voting legislation, in the video published on July 13, 2021, “Why Texas House Democrats left the state“, below:
Texas Democratic lawmakers defied calls for their arrest after Republican Governor Greg Abbott vowed to arrest Democrats who left the state to deny the state House the quorum required to approve new voting restrictions and other conservative measures, in the video published on July 14, 2021, “Texas Democrats defy calls for their arrest“, below:
Sixteen other states had already enacted similar legislation restricting access to voting. Democratic lawmakers in Texas fled the state to prevent the passage of a Republican voting rights bill. Without the Democrats, there aren’t enough lawmakers present to hold a vote. Mireya Villarreal reports, in the video published on July 12, 2021, “Texas Democrats flee state to block Republican voting bill“, below:
Many Texas Democratic lawmakers intend to stay outside of Texas for at least 30 days, until after the special session is over.
Wouldn’t it be great to have Election Days as National Holidays and every American would simply vote on that day and celebrate our democracy/party with members of other political parties afterward?!
