A few years ago, SpaceX founder Elon Musk approached Josh Dahn to teach his children, the Ad Astra (Latin for “to the stars”), the private school, was born from collaboration between Elon Musk and educator Josh Dahn! Keep watching to find out more about this cyber school, in the video published on June 4, 2021, “Elon Musk’s CYBER School Is About To REVOLUTIONIZE Education“, below:
Ad Astra is a school that focuses on problem solving, without segregation by age, and utilizes gamification of the learning process, and believes the intelligence is acquired through practice over time. With these goals comes the Synthesis. Cofounder and CEO of Synthesis, Chrisman Frank, tells us how Synthesis is creating a platform that teaches problems solving for children who want to learn how to build the future. To read about the Origin Story of Synthesis, in italics, below:
In the video published on March 4, 2021, “The Origins of Synthesis“, below:
Six years ago, Elon Musk asked me to start an experimental school with him at SpaceX.
The goal was to develop students who are enthralled by complexity and solving for the unknown.
Synthesis is the most innovative learning experience from that school. It is designed to cultivate student voice, strategic thinking, and collaborative problem solving.
I believe Synthesis builds these skills like no other education experience.
Until recently, Synthesis was only available to a handful of SpaceX families. Today, our community is worldwide and growing quickly. Excited for you to be a part of it.
Warmly,
Josh Dahn, Cofounder & Creative Director
Current public education model is geared toward the middle or the bottom, but Ad Astra utilizes Synthesis, an unapologetically accelerated program, to enable learning. The overall mission for this school is to increase the level of innovation in the world. If there are now 1 in 10,000 people innovating and contributing new knowledge to the world, perhaps Ad Astra and Synthesis can get that number to 1 in 100?
Synthesis launched in November of 2020 and has already reached a $2 M annual run rate. There is a core team of 10, with 70 guides who are adults that facilitate the learning sessions. The ultimate goal of Synthesis is to cultivate human ingenuity at scale. This program is a supplement to regular school or home schooling.
Constellation is a fast-paced strategy simulation that requires quick analysis, cooperative action and the ability to change strategies in the face of shifting scoring variables, in the video published on Oct 28, 2020, “Constellation by Synthesis“, below:
At Synthesis, they don’t design for content. They design for experience. The simulations are built from scratch to be not only engaging, but deep, In the video published on May 6, 2021, “The Synthesis Recipe for Learning“, below:
Here are 5 ways in which Synthesis is different from other learning experiences, in the video published on April 2, 2021, “What Makes Synthesis Unique“, below:
