On Friday, May 28, 2021, the Senate Republican used their filibuster power in the Senate, for the first time this year, to kill the creation, by a vote of 54 to 35 (only 6 Republican senators voted in favor of the commission, short of 10 needed to advance the bill), of an independent, bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6 Capitol Riot, blocking the Investigation of the deadliest attack on Congress since the War of 1812. The January 6 Capitol Riot left five people dead and about 140 officers injured,

“On a Memorial Day weekend, when we honor men & women who gave their lives defending our democracy, this Congress has chosen not to establish a bipartisan commission to investigate the worst attack on our Capitol — the Citadel of this democracy — since 1812,” Chuck Todd says, in the video published on May 30, 2021, “Block Of Jan. 6 Commission Is ‘Failed Stress Test For Our Democracy’“, below:
Terrified of the political ramifications the truth may expose, 35 Senate Republicans continue to put Party ahead of Country, and voted to block the creation of an independent January 6 Commission modeled on the famed 9/11 Commission which would investigate the Insurrection and Attack on the United States Capitol, in the video published on May 30, 2021, “Lt. Gen. Russel Honore Calls For Jan 6th Commission“, below:
Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd joins Hallie Jackson on Sunday TODAY to discuss Republicans’ efforts to block the Jan. 6 commission and President Biden’s upcoming summit with Vladimir Putin in Geneva, in the video published on May 30, 2021, “Chuck Todd On Likelihood Of Jan. 6 Probe Passing In Second Vote“, below:
Republican Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana said, “The investigation will happen with or without Republicans. To ensure the investigations are fair, impartial, and focused on facts, Republicans need to be involved.”
Since the Republican Senate had voted against the independent, bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6 Capitol Riot, now there will be a partisan commission composed of all Democrats to investigate the January 6 Capitol Riot.
Washington D.C. Police Officer Michael Fanone who defended the Capitol on January 6 described that day, “I have experienced the most brutal savage hand-to-hand combat of my entire life.” January 6 Capitol Riot was not a normal tour, as claimed by some Republican senators and representatives.
Mother of the fallen officer Brian Sicknick, Gladys Sicknick, said, “They’re suppose to uphold the Constitution, but right now I don’t think they’re doing it.”
On Wednesday, the day before the Senate presentation and vote, Gladys Sicknick put out a statement, “I suggest that all Congressmen and Senators who are against this Bill visit my son’s grave in Arlington National Cemetery and, while there, think about what their hurtful decisions will do to these officers who will be there for them going forward.”
The former U.S. Capitol Police Chief and law enforcement analyst, Terrance Gainer, said, “I think that today’s vote showed that they do not care for those who born the battle (those who bore the brunt of the battle) and to help prevent something like that from happening again. It needs a comprehensive real investigation, not these stove-piped things that are going on in multiple branches of government. This is not a good moment for our Congress, and is certainly not what we expected. I think they’ve let the Capitol Police and others down severely.”
In an exclusive interview with Meet the Press, Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) says Congress will investigate January 6 even if a bipartisan commission plan is not passed, in the video published on May 30, 2021, “Crow: Investigation Of Capitol Attack ‘Has To Get Done’“, below:
Republican senators overnight stalled a crucial vote on the January 6 commission, debating an unrelated bill to delay the vote. Also, 74 percent of GOP voters think it’s time to move on from the Jan. 6 insurrection. Joe Scarborough shares his thoughts, in the video published on May 28, 2021, “Joe: We Can’t Avert Our Eyes From What Happened On Jan. 6“, below:
Former Rep. Barbara Comstock and Rep. Jason Crow (D-Colo.) discuss the failure to form a bipartisan Jan. 6 commission. Matthew Pottinger and Dr. Peter Hotez explain why the Covid-19 lab leak theory is gaining legitimacy from the Biden administration. Geoff Bennett, Stephanie Cutter, Sara Fagen and Ayesha Rascoe join the Meet the Press roundtable, in the video published on May 30, 2021, “Meet The Press Broadcast (Full) – May 30th, 2021“, below:
Despite the disappointing vote outcome of the Republican Senate, let us remember those who have died in service of our country. Let us not forget their sacrifice for our democracy and protection of our Constitution.
President Joe Biden paid tribute to the US military service members during his first Memorial Day Address at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, in the video published on May 31, 2021, “Watch Joe Biden’s full 2021 Memorial Day address“, below:
