After settling a court battle with Orlando International Airport (MCO), on Friday May 29, 2021, Orlando Melbourne International Airport is changing its name to Melbourne Orlando International Airport (MLB). According to a news release from the Melbourne Aviation Authority, (MAA), this name change was “legally agreed upon to every one’s mutual satisfaction.” The lawsuit originally called for MLB to stop using “Orlando” entirely in its name.
In resolving the matter for mutual benefit and the interest in traveling public, both parties have agreed on Melbourne Airport Authority changing all trademarks, branding, identifiers and signage of its airport from Orlando Melbourne International Airport to Melbourne Orlando International Airport.

This change came after the Brevard County was sued by the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) overseeing the Orlando International Airport (MCO). The lawsuit claimed that the Melbourne Aviation Authority (MAA) used false and deceptive advertising and infringed Orlando International Airport’s trademark when they began incorporating Orlando in the past, despite the fact that Melbourne is about 70 miles away from Orlando.
The MLB Executive Director Greg Donovan said in a statement, “Both airports value regionalism and share a common goal of providing world class traveler experiences, and we look forward to a bright future as Melbourne Orlando International Airport, the coastal gateway to Central Florida.”
