The Board has upheld Facebook’s decision to suspend former president Trump from Facebook and Instagram because “Trump’s posts during the Capitol riot severely violated Facebook’s rules and encouraged and legitimized violence…Within 6 months of today, Facebook must review this matter and decide a new penalty that reflects its rules, the severity of the violation, and prospect of future harm. Facebook can either impose a time-limited suspension or account deletion.”, according to the tweets from Oversight Board@OversightBoard, in the video published on May 5, 2021, “Facebook Oversight Board upholds Trump ban, gives company 6 months to reassess | New York Post“, below:

After getting banned from the majority of the popular social media platforms, former US President Donald Trump has decided to launch his own social media space. He has decided to launch a space on his own website where he can post messages, which can then be shared on Twitter and Facebook, in the video published on May 5, 2021, “Donald Trump launches his own social media space on his website | Latest English News | World News“, below:
CNN’s Donie O’Sullivan says that the Facebook Advisory Board’s decision that Facebook can keep blocking former President Donald Trump from using its platform creates a nightmare situation for the social media giant. The landmark move affirms the company’s decision to suspend Trump in January after the US Capitol riots. However, the board said Facebook must review the decision within six months. “Within six months of this decision, Facebook must reexamine the arbitrary penalty it imposed on January 7 and decide the appropriate penalty,” the board wrote in its decision. “This penalty must be based on the gravity of the violation and the prospect of future harm. It must also be consistent with Facebook’s rules for severe violations, which must, in turn, be clear, necessary and proportionate.” The board also criticized Facebook for having made the suspension indefinite. “In applying a vague, standardless penalty and then referring this case to the Board to resolve, Facebook seeks to avoid its responsibilities,” the decision said, in the video published on May 5, 2021, “‘Nightmare situation for Facebook’: What the Trump ruling means“, below:
