Sleep Cats (Attribution: Tomas Ryant, Presented at: WindermereSun.com)Did you know that cats sleep, on average, 12-16 hours per day? Why do cats sleep so much? Cats have evolved to sleep for long periods throughout the day. Wild cats need to sleep in order to conserve their energy to hunt, chase and kill their next meal. Although our house cats may not need to hunt, the instinct to sleep and prepare for the hunt carries on.Quote of the Week, 4/24/2021, below:Quote of 4/24/2021, “It is difficult to say what is impossible, for the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow.” (Quote of: Robert H. Goddard, Photo of: Susan Sun Nunamaker, Presented at: WindermereSun.com)Robert H. Goddard once said, “It is difficult to say what is impossible, for the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow.”To find out more about Robert H. Goddard, please refer to the excerpt from wikipedia, in italics, below:Robert Hutchings Goddard(October 5, 1882 – August 10, 1945)[1]was an American engineer, professor, physicist, and inventorwho is credited with creating and building the world’s first liquid-fueledrocket.[2]Goddard successfully launched his rocket on March 16, 1926, which ushered in an era of space flight and innovation. He and his team launched 34 rockets[3] between 1926 and 1941, achieving altitudes as high as 2.6 km (1.6 mi) and speeds as fast as 885 km/h (550 mph).[3]Goddard’s work as both theorist and engineer anticipated many of the developments that would make spaceflight possible.[4]He has been called the man who ushered in the Space Age.[5]:xiii Two of Goddard’s 214 patented inventions, a multi-stage rocket (1914), and a liquid-fuel rocket (1914), were important milestones toward spaceflight.[6] His 1919monographA Method of Reaching Extreme Altitudes is considered one of the classic texts of 20th-century rocket science.[7][8]Goddard successfully applied two-axis control (gyroscopes and steerable thrust) to rockets to control their flight effectively.Although his work in the field was revolutionary, Goddard received little public support, moral or monetary, for his research and development work.[9]:92,93 He was a shy person, and rocket research was not considered a suitable pursuit for a physics professor.[10]:12 The press and other scientists ridiculed his theories of spaceflight. As a result, he became protective of his privacy and his work. He preferred to work alone also because of the aftereffects of a bout with tuberculosis.[10]:13Years after his death, at the dawn of the Space Age, Goddard came to be recognized as one of the founding fathers of modern rocketry, along with Robert Esnault-Pelterie, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, and Hermann Oberth.[11][12][13] He not only recognized the potential of rockets for atmospheric research, ballistic missiles and space travel but also was the first who scientifically studied, designed, and constructed the rockets that were needed to implement those ideas.[14]NASA‘s Goddard Space Flight Center was named in Goddard’s honor in 1959. He was also inducted into theInternational Aerospace Hall of Fame in 1966, and the International Space Hall of Fame in 1976.[15]

I am a mother/wife/daughter, math professor, solar advocate, world traveler, yogi, artist, photographer, sharer of knowledge/information, and resident of Windermere, FL. I've worked professionally in applied math, engineering, medical research, and as a university math professor in IL and FL for about 20 years. My husband and I loved Disney and moved down to Central Florida initially as snowbirds. But we've come to love the warmth and friendly people offered by this community and decided to move down to Windermere, FL full time in 2006. I am now spending time sharing information/ knowledge online, promoting understanding of math and solar energy (via http://www.sunisthefuture.net ), and developing Windermere Sun (http://www.WindermereSun.com) as an online publication, sharing and promoting Community ABC's (Activities-Businesses-Collaborations) for healthier/happier/more sustainable living. In the following posts, I'll be sharing with you some of the reasons why Windermere has attracted us to become full-time residents of Central Florida region. Please feel free to leave your comments via email at "Contact Us" in the topbar above or via info.WindermereSun@gmail.com.
