After two weeks of witnesses and expert examining George Floyd’s death and Derek Chauvin’s use of force, the verdict comes on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, with jury finding former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin guilty of second and third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter of May 25, 2020, the killing of George Floyd. Judge Peter Cahill has allowed the proceedings to be broadcasted live, a first in Minnesota history for a criminal trial.
