With regard to COVID vaccines, Governor DeSantis’ position is “provide it for all but mandate it for none.” He believes in individual freedom and liberty to make decision with regard to participation in COVID vaccinations and that such a decision for vaccination is private health information. On Friday, April 2, 2021, Governor Ron DeSantis signed an executive order effectively banning the use of vaccine passport in state of Florida. This would prevent any Florida government entity from issuing a vaccine passport to prove that a person has been vaccinated for COVID-19. This executive order also bans businesses in Florida from requiring customers to provide COVID-19 vaccine documentation to gain access or services. The specific wording of the executive order says “requiring so-called COVID-19 vaccine passports for taking part in everyday life – such as attending a sporting event, patronizing a restaurant, or going to a movie theater – would create two classes of citizens based on vaccination.”
DeSantis said he plans to get the vaccine soon now that he is eligible.
