We’re living in the 21st century when civilized human society would no longer tolerate public execution of a human being, regardless what the race, gender, background. The human society has responded to the brutal murder of George Floyd by Derek Chauvin, caught on film. Please be warned that segments of video below remains shocking (not fitting for children to view) and incredulous to see Derek Chauvin, a police officer, continuing to place his knee on George Floyd’s neck even after multiple bystanders tried to prevent the killing of George Floyd.
Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who was filmed with his knee on George Floyd’s neck in May of 2020, is facing murder and manslaughter charges for the encounter that sparked months of historic protests around the world. This stream below contains graphic content. Chauvin faces charges of second- and third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. Three other officers charged in the case: J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas K. Lane and Tou Thao, to be tried separately in August of 2021. George Floyd died on May 25 after being handcuffed and restrained facedown on a Minneapolis street during a police investigation of a counterfeit $20 bill that allegedly had been passed at a local market. The Washington Post’s Rhonda Colvin will anchor live coverage featuring reporters Holly Bailey and Joyce Koh from Minneapolis. The program will also feature reporters Keith Alexander, Mark Berman, Tim Craig, Nicole Ellis, Hannah Jewell and Eugene Scott. Plus, columnist James Hohmann, in the video published on March 29, 2021, “Derek Chauvin trial begins with opening statements and first witnesses – 3/29 (FULL STREAM).
The world has spoken: It is not acceptable to terminate another human life in such a manner, regardless race, gender, background. Derek Chauvin, a 19 year veteran of the Minneapolis Police Department, is facing charges of second- and third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter, and could face up to 40 years in state prison. Above, is the opening statements and first witnesses, on March 29, 2021. Chauvin’s trial began on March 8, 2021, at the Hennepin County Government Center.[8] Opening statements from the prosecution and the defense were heard on Day 1- March 29, 2021.[39] Prosecutor Jerry Blackwell started opening statements saying that “Mr. Chauvin betrayed his badge” while defense attorney Eric Nelson said that “Chauvin did exactly what he had been trained to do.”[45]It marked the first time that a judge in Minnesota authorized cameras to show a full criminal trial.[8]
