More than half of the country is affected by this winter storm. CNN’s Ed Lavandera reports on the winter storms hitting Texas which prompted over a hundred traffic accidents and caused power outages that affected millions of people in the video published on Feb. 15, 2021, “Winter storms hammer Texas leaving millions without power“, below:
Millions of American remained without power in frigid temperatures Tuesday as the U.S. continues to grapple with the effects of a major storm. The demand for energy is taxing power grids, most significantly in Texas. Stephanie Sy speaks with Michael Wara, director of the Climate and Energy Policy program at the Stanford University Woods Institute for the Environment, to learn more, in the video published on Feb. 16, 2021, “Millions remain without power in frigid temperatures after major winter storm“, below:
Due to 1. unprecedented demand for power for electricity during winter (demand for power was/is significantly higher than grid planner’s worst case scenario) and 2. coal-natural gas-nuclear power plants are not performing at expected levels, especially natural gas power plants in Texas right now. Wind power plants are meeting their expected level. With climate change, grid planners need to update their forecast for future extreme weather conditions.Houston Chronicle reporter Zach Despart and University of Houston Energy Fellow Ed Hirs join Chuck Todd to discuss the power grid emergency, in the video published on Feb. 17, 2021, “Texas Ignored Report Predicting Power Grid Emergency For 10 Years, MTP Daily, MSNBC“, below:
“It is just a lie that wind turbines, ‘green energy’ are the root causes of the problems in Texas right now,” says Chris Hayes, discussing the right wing attempt to turn Texas power outages into a culture war. Chris Hayes delivers the biggest news and political stories of the day with a commitment to in-depth reporting that consistently seeks to hold the nation’s leaders accountable for their actions. Drawing from his background as a reporter, Hayes at times reports directly from the scene of a news event as it occurs to provide a firsthand account, digging deep and speaking with people who represent different points of view. Hayes brings the nation’s officials, legislators, policymakers, and local activists to the table to address key issues affecting communities across America, in the video published on Feb. 16, 2021, “Chris Hayes Debunks GOP, Right-Wing Media Lies About Texas Power Outages, All In, MSNBC“, below:
I am a mother/wife/daughter, math professor, solar advocate, world traveler, yogi, artist, photographer, sharer of knowledge/information, and resident of Windermere, FL. I've worked professionally in applied math, engineering, medical research, and as a university math professor in IL and FL for about 20 years. My husband and I loved Disney and moved down to Central Florida initially as snowbirds. But we've come to love the warmth and friendly people offered by this community and decided to move down to Windermere, FL full time in 2006. I am now spending time sharing information/ knowledge online, promoting understanding of math and solar energy (via http://www.sunisthefuture.net ), and developing Windermere Sun (http://www.WindermereSun.com) as an online publication, sharing and promoting Community ABC's (Activities-Businesses-Collaborations) for healthier/happier/more sustainable living. In the following posts, I'll be sharing with you some of the reasons why Windermere has attracted us to become full-time residents of Central Florida region.
