The business sector is particularly sensitive to the source of the problem, president Trump, a POTUS with the ambition for autocracy but soon to be a former president, relentlessly holding onto the executive power with fierce derangement.Just hours after the mob breached the Capitol building, the Business Roundtable, a powerful nonprofit organization of CEOs based in DC, that began advocating for social purpose of companies since 2019, issued a statement on Twitter which was speedily amplified by its members, various companies and prominent voices in business. It means the president’s campaign website and online fundraising arms will no longer have access to the payment processor’s services, cutting Trump campaign off from receiving donations due to violation of company policies against encouraging violence. In case of Twitter, the company permanently banned the president from its platform (shutting down @realDonaldTrump), as well as its affiliated Twitter handles such as @TeamTrump, the official presidential account @POTUS (soon to be handed to the new Biden administration with zero followers), and deleted individual tweets from the president. Keep in mind that Twitter has policies stating that blocked user may not attempt to use a different account to evade its ban. Twitter is also blocking some of the president’s affiliates, Michael Flynn, a bunch of Trump supporters, and a variety of QAnon figures.
Deutsche Bank will no longer do business with President Donald Trump, a move that will cut off his business from a major source of loans that once helped fund his golf courses and hotels. Germany’s biggest bank has decided to refrain from future business with the president and his company, a person familiar with the bank’s thinking told CNN Business. The news, first reported by the New York Times, follows last week’s deadly riot at the US Capitol, in the video “Deutsche Bank will no longer do business with Trump“, below:
Besides response from the tech companies and social media companies, The PGA of America cut ties to President Donald Trump when it voted Sunday, January 10, 2021, to take the PGA Championship event away from Trump’s New Jersey golf course next year, in the video “PGA Championship Leaving Trump National in ’22 Tournament“, below:
As DC officials are tightening security ahead of Wednesday’s inauguration, NBC’s Anna Schecter reports that extremists are “recalibrating and planning for January 20th” even though their preferred app to plan, Parler, was shut down. She tells Ali Velshi that these extremists have found a workaround: “Telegram was the app favored by ISIS and now it’s really the place for far-right extremists and conspiracy theorists.” In the video “Far-right Extremists Are Now ‘Recalibrating & Planning’ On An App Favored by ISIS, MSNBC“, below:
Some of America’s biggest companies are suspending donations to Republican Congress members who objected to the Electoral College’s votes. The growing list of those corporations, including BlueCross BlueShield, Citigroup (C), Commerce Bank and Marriott (MAR), comes after a pro-Trump mob breached the US Capitol last Wednesday to fight against the ceremonial counting of electoral votes that confirmed President-elect Joe Biden’s win. 147 Republicans voted against certification of the electoral votes in a joint session of Congress last Wednesday evening. They included Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley, Kansas Sen. Roger Marshall, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville, among hundreds other congress members. “At the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, we continuously evaluate our political contributions to ensure that those we support share our values and goals,” said Kim Keck, BlueCross BlueShield’s president and CEO, in a statement. “In light of this week’s violent, shocking assault on the United States Capitol, and the votes of some members of Congress to subvert the results of November’s election by challenging Electoral College results, BCBSA will suspend contributions to those lawmakers who voted to undermine our democracy.” The health insurance company’s BLUEPAC political action committee — supported only by employee contributions — donated $246,750 to Republican lawmakers during the 2020 cycle. That included $10,000 to Sen. Tuberville, $1,000 to Sen. Marshall and $500 to Sen. Hawley. BlueCross BlueShield said it’s stopping donations to all 147 Republicans who challenged the Electoral College results, in the video “Corporations halt donations to GOP who voted to overturn elections“, below:
President Donald Trump has been banned indefinitely from Facebook and Instagram. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a statement: “We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great. “Therefore, we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete.” in the video “Trump banned indefinitely from Facebook and Instagram“, below:
President Trump lost his primary megaphone overnight when Twitter permanently shut down his personal account, breaking off his connection to nearly 90 million followers. They also suspended an account used by his campaign. The ban comes as calls from both Democrats and some Republicans intensify for Mr. Trump to resign or face a potential second impeachment. Paula Reid reports from the White House, in the video “Twitter bans Trump’s personal account permanently“, below:
It’s time for politicians to take some notes from the business people. Speed is of the essence!
