The House Democrats are planning on introducing the Article of Impeachment against President Trump on Monday, January 11, 2021, charging Trump with inciting an insurrection to attack the nation’s Capitol by his supporters. Some Republican Senators are considering convicting President Trump if he were impeached. Republican Senator from Alaska, Lisa Murkowski, said President Trump should resign, but Trump has not expressed such intention. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is concerned about the deranged Trump having access to the nuclear codes that she called the Pentagon. Twitter has also permanently suspended Trump’s Twitter account. Chances are growing that President Trump could be the only U.S. leader impeached twice. Nancy Cordeshas the latest in the video “Democrats push to impeach Trump for inciting insurrection“, below:
ABC News contributor Kate Shaw discusses President Donald Trump’s potential crimes, his power to pardon himself and why those who stormed the Capitol could face more serious charges like sedition, in the video “How President Trump could be prosecuted for inciting violence“, below:
House Democrats are currently planning to introduce articles of impeachment against President Trump as soon as Monday, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter. That could set up a vote in the House early to the middle of next week. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has not explicitly said when this will go to the floor. This would be the second time the House has unveiled articles of impeachment against President Trump. In December 2019, the House impeached Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The Senate acquitted him on both charges last February, in the video “House Democrats plan to impeach Trump, again“, below:
Real Clear Politics associate editor A.B. Stoddard blasts the president and argues that his megalomania has destroyed the Republican party, in the video “A.B. Stoddard: Trump Wants To ‘Break The Republican Party’, Deadline, MSNBC“, below:
The former assistant secretary for counterterrorism on how the siege of the Capitol quickly turned violent and how the new administration should investigate the situation, in the video “Why weren’t Capitol rioters arrested on the spot?” below:
The former assistant secretary for counterterrorism reminds us all in the video above: Law enforcement needs to be held accountable instead of turning a blind eye to events of domestic terrorism. Domestic terrorism needs to be investigated seriously. 76% of all terrorist attacks in this country in the last ten years came from violent right wing extremist groups. This must be treated seriously for it is a threat to our country. Fresh leadership from the top is important. Chris Hayes: “It is entirely possible that there were people in that crowd, looking to apprehend, possibly harm, and possibly murder the leaders of the political class that the President, and people like Mo Brooks, and even to a certain extent Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley, have told them have betrayed them.” in the video “Must-See New Video Shows Capitol Riot Was Way Worse Than We Thought, All In, MSNBC“, below:
In the midst of the debates surrounding the certification of Biden’s win, congressional representatives and senators were forced to flee their respective chambers as the mob closed in. Among them was Republican Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, who had stood up against his GOP colleagues’ efforts to block the certification. He speaks with Walter Isaacson about what happened when white supremacists, anarchists and anti-Semites stormed the Capitol, and what should be done about President Trump now, in the video “GOP Sen. Bill Cassidy: “I Think the President Should Be Worried”, Amanpour and Company“, below:
Former White House communications director Alyssa Farah said Friday that President Donald Trump lied to the American people about the 2020 presidential election results and said that he should “seriously consider” resigning from office after Wednesday’s deadly insurrection at the US Capitol. Farah said on CNN’s “New Day” that she holds Trump responsible for inciting the mob that stormed the US Capitol in an attempt to stop Congress’ certification of President-elect Joe Biden‘s Electoral College win and allowing this “lie to take a life of its own that the election might be overturned.” Asked by CNN’s John Berman if she would feel safer today if Trump resigned and Vice President Mike Pence took over, Farah replied, “I would.” “I think that it’s something (Trump) should seriously consider,” she said. “I don’t think that — when you’ve got just a number of days left — there’s any need to carry on kind of the charade of an impeachment.” in the video “Ex-Trump communications director: He lied about 2020 election“, below:
But President Trump has no intention of resigning.Axios national political reporter Jonathan Swan describes the inner-workings of the Trump White House right now, and says he believes many cabinet secretaries are running their agencies without the president’s guidance, in the video “Jonathan Swan: The Cabineet Is Acting As If Trump ‘Is Not The President’, Deadline, MSNBC“, below:
Throughout Trump’s presidency many GOP leaders and administration staffers downplayed Trump’s often violent and anti-democratic rhetoric, claiming he was just joking. But after pro-Trump supporters sieged Capitol Hill, MSNBC’s Ari Melber highlights how these same people are not reversing course. The New York Times columnist Michelle Goldberg joins Melber to discuss the damage inflicted on the nation by officials who downplayed Trump’s rhetoric, explaining “people didn’t want to treat his presidency as daily ongoing emergency.” (This interview is from MSNBC’s “The Beat with Ari Melber, a news show covering politics, law and culture airing nightly at 6pm ET on MSNBC, in the video “‘Emergency’: GOP Leaders Standing Up To Trump Now Helped Fuel Trumpism, The Beat With Ari Melber“, below:
President Trump has announced he won’t be attending the inauguration of his successor, Joe Biden, just hours after promising a peaceful transition. He will become the first US president to miss the ceremony in more than 150 years. Joe Biden said the decision was a good thing and it was one of the only things they’d ever agreed on. He said President Trump was an embarrassment to his country. Sophie Raworth presents BBC News at Ten reporting by North America editor Jon Sopel, in the video “Trump branded “embarrassment to his country” as he shuns Biden inauguration – BBC News“, below:
The chaos that engulfed Washington, D.C. this week has taken a tragic new turn. And with it, momentum is building to oust a sitting president in the final days of his term. Lisa Desjardins and Nick Schifrin join Judy Woodruff to discuss, in the video “Momentum builds to remove President Trump from office“, below:
As rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan‘s efforts to send in state police and the National Guard were blocked by the federal government for a full 90 minutes. Now, Hogan – a Republican – is calling for President Trump to resign or be removed from office. Joining these calls is the Lincoln Project, the anti-Trump Republican group formed in 2019. Its co-founder Rick Wilsoncalls the violence “sedition and insurrection,” and speaks with Hari Sreenivasan about what’s at stake, in the video “Lincoln Project’s Rick Wilson: Trump’s Life About to Become “A Burning Hell”, Amanpour and Company“, below:
