Today is the day when all Americans need some light and good news. So allow me to share some useful and positive information from and for farmers with solar fields. It’s a win-win situation when combining sheep with solar energy, a strategy some American farmers have begun to practise. Solar grazing is the practice of grazing sheep on solar farms, a cost saving landscaping strategy while offering plenty of shade and protection of sheep from the elements.
Newton College and Career Academy FFA teamed up with snapping Shoals EMC to create a sustainable approach to their solar farm weed control, in the video “Benefits of Combining Solar Energy and Sheep“, below:
Nexamp kicked off a new solar grazing program recently with the deployment of approximately 150 sheep on its solar farm in Newfield, NY. The sheep will be used to provide sustainable vegetation management at the site throughout the growing season. Solar grazing provides a variety of important benefits to the sheep farmer, the sheep, the community and the solar farm developer. Upstate New York sheep farmers Lexie Hain and Lewis Fox of Agrivoltaic Solutions are providing sheep for the two Nexamp sites. More importantly, the two have teamed up to co-found the American Solar Grazing Association, a group that will offer valuable resources and guidance to sheep farmers while serving as a connection point for members and solar developers across the country, in the video “Solar Grazing and the American Solar Grazing Association“, below:
Co-founder Lexie Hain gives us an introduction to her non-profit, the American Solar Grazers Association. ASGA aims to promote healthy commerce and communication between farmers and solar companies by giving members the tools needed to properly engage in the developing field of agrivoltaics. www.solargrazing.org As a proud and active member of ASGA, Eitri Foundry has the unique ability to share the story of how agricultural land owners can work with solar developers like Eitri, to define this emerging market, in the video “Introduction to the American Solar Grazing Association“, below:
A solar field in Converse has welcomed 200 temporary employees to the property…sheep! The new additions are adding charm to the energy farm. Leah Durain explains how they get the job done better than people could, in the video “Solar Company hires sheep landscapers“, below:
Solar Grazing is the practice of grazing sheep on solar farms. When sheep graze solar sites they improve their own health by grazing pastures that offer plenty of shade and protection from the elements. It also helps to keep farmland in production and reduces the need to mow. Our presenters are founding members of the American Solar Grazing Association, in the video “Solar Grazing 101 Webinar“, below:
