For those of you in the environmentally conscious circle, besides electric cars (better yet, solar powered electric cars), a tremendous partnership between Silent-Yachts (an Austrian manufacturer of premium solar-powered luxury watercraft), with Volkswagen Group to incorporate the auto giant’s modular electric drive matrix MEB platform into its next super-yacht, would surely warm your hearts.
According to Silent Yachts, the solar-powered electric catamaran will feature the company’s own photovoltaic system. This will be used to charge batteries that will in turn provide power to the yacht’s onboard electronics, and to its electric propulsion system. The yacht is being designed by Cupra, a high performance sub-brand of Volkswagen-owned Spanish automaker Seat. All of Silent Yachts’ models are solar powered and therefore quieter, more eco-friendly, and with lower maintenance cost than the conventional fuel-burning catamarans.
