On Sunday, at 12:05 pm grid time (Australian eastern standard time), October 11, 2020, for the first time, the combination of rooftop solar providing 992 MW (76.3% of state demand) and utility scale solar providing 315 MW, met 100% of the energy demand in South Australia, meeting all three of the state’s big solar farms, Bungala 1m Bungala 2 and Tailem Bend operating at full capacity. This is a milestone that will be repeated in the future. The combination of sunny weather, mild temperature, and relatively low weekend demand were helpful. But the reality is: the importance of solar energy is here to stay in South Australia as well as rest of the world.
Elon Musk‘s Battery farm has been life changing for the people from South Australia. Before there used to be frequent power cuts not to mention high electricity prices. But how can a nation that has one of the highest reserves of Coal and Natural gas still struggle to provide its people Electricity. The problem was exacerbated by the Gale winds which damaged the already frail infrastructure of South Australia. Tesla’s Powerwall and Battery Storage Solutions came to the rescue of South Australians. In this video we take a look at how Elon Musk’s Battery farms changed the World in terms of renewable energy storage solutions and how countries are slowly moving towards clean Energy, in the video “How Tesla Battery Farms Changed the Lives of Australians“, below:
Tesla launches the Megapack, a utility-scale battery product, born out of the company’s wildly succesful Hornsdale battery project (in Australia). Tesla’s energy storage deployments have been growing rapidly, and are on pace to hit 2GWh in 2019. This overlooked piece of the company’s business could be a huge growth driver in 2020 and beyond, in the video “Tesla Megapack: Utility-Scale Energy Storage“, below:
Utility scale batteries have been dismissed by some as no more than a useful bolt-on to our existing electricity grids to help with a little bit of demand stabilization here and there. But dramatic cost reductions, improved efficiencies, and a plethora of new innovations in how to store energy that can be delivered into the grid over long durations have all contributed towards a rapidly changing market that look set to revolutionize how we structure our global energy systems towards a fossil fuel-free future, in the video “How energy storage will kill fossil fuel“, below:
I wonder when 100% of the energy need in Southern USA will be met by solar energy?!
