Six men were charged in Michigan Thursday for allegedly plotting to abduct and kill Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, as well as other political figures, in the video “FBI provides details on plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Whitmer“, below:
In the affidavit obtained by the Detroit News, an FBI agent wrote “Several members talked about murdering ‘tyrants’ or ‘taking’ a sitting governor. The group decided they needed to increase their numbers and encouraged each other to talk to their neighbors and spread their message.”
At least six men have been charged in connection with the alleged terror plot: Adam Fox, Barry Croft, Ty Garbin, Kaleb Franks, Daniel Harris, and Brandon Caserta.
Michigan State Attorney General Dana Nessel said, during a press conference on Thursday, October 8, 2020, that her office had brought additional charges in the alleged plot under the state anti-terrorism law against seven suspects not named in the FBI affidavit. Nessel said the suspects were all in custody and had been linked to Wolverine Watchmen, a Michigan-based militia group. She also said that the plot included targeting the state capitol.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer imposed some of the strictest measures in the nation to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and, as a result of these measures, saw an “explosion” of threats. Governor’s residence implemented $1.1 million security upgrade in September as part of “routine maintenance and upgrades”, according to her spokesperson.
A 32-year old Detroit man, Robert Sinclair Tesh, was charged with threatening to kill both Whitmer and Nessel in May of 2020.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement, “We understand that these times can be stressful and upsetting for many people. But we will not and cannot tolerate threats like these against any public official who are carrying out their duties as efficiently as they can. You can disagree with their positions or their methodology, but you absolutely cannot act as this defendant allegedly acted or you will be charged criminally.”
President Trump railed against Michigan’s coronavirus restrictions in April, tweeting, “LIBERATE MICHIGAN!”
I am a mother/wife/daughter, math professor, solar advocate, world traveler, yogi, artist, photographer, sharer of knowledge/information, and resident of Windermere, FL. I've worked professionally in applied math, engineering, medical research, and as a university math professor in IL and FL for about 20 years. My husband and I loved Disney and moved down to Central Florida initially as snowbirds. But we've come to love the warmth and friendly people offered by this community and decided to move down to Windermere, FL full time in 2006. I am now spending time sharing information/ knowledge online, promoting understanding of math and solar energy (via http://www.sunisthefuture.net ), and developing Windermere Sun (http://www.WindermereSun.com) as an online publication, sharing and promoting Community ABC's (Activities-Businesses-Collaborations) for healthier/happier/more sustainable living.
