There are a total of three planned presidential debates between these two presidential candidates before the Election Day on November 3, 2020.
In the video “First Presidential Debate: WATCH LIVE Pres. Trump, Joe Biden go head-to-head, ABC News“, below:
Some of the important topics of discussions: Health care for American people, recent New York Times report about Trump’s federal tax (not having paid any federal tax for years and paid only $750 in 2016 and 2017), economic recovery, COVID-19, etc.
Joe Biden is in favor of wiping out “pre-existing conditions” with regard to health insurance. Joe Biden’s proposed health care would expand Obamacare and allows private health insurance. President Trump has promised to repeal and replace the Obamacare during these past four years, but still has not come up with a plan to this day to replace Obamacare. However, President Trump did get rid of the “individual mandate” (which means individuals are not required to have health insurance), and reduced the cost of drugs.
Joe Biden is in support of peaceful demonstrations but would not tolerate violent riots and would want to prosecute violent crimes. He reminded us that crime rates have dramatically reduced during Obama-Biden administration but dramatically increased during Trump administration. Biden is opposed to defunding the police and is in favor of helping local police to have additional help from mental health or social workers on job to help solve local issues. Biden said, “Riots and chaos help Trump, therefore Trump tends to like to stir things up to create more chaos.”President Trump refused to condemn white supremacist groups. Instead, Trump said, “Stand by and stand back” to the white supremacist groups. When Joe Biden was asked what is his strategy, Biden responded, “Just tell the truth.” and pointing out that under President Trump’s watch, there was no plan to protect American people against the COVID-19 and ended up with over 200,000 deaths and desperate economy. Joe Biden said, “You can trust the scientists, but you cannot trust President Trump.” Biden said Trump tried reopening the economy without a plan or assistance ahead of the time.
According to New York Times, citing tax return data extending more than 20 years: President Trump had paid no income taxes at all in 10 of the previous 15 years and paid only $750 in federal income taxes in 2016( the year he won the election) & 2017. Trump immediately dismissed this report as “totally fake news.” (Keep in mind that: U.S. presidents are not required by law to release details of their personal finances, but every president since Richard Nixon has done so until Trump. Trump broke this presidential tradition by refusing to release his tax returns, fighting a long battle in the courts and fueling speculation about what they might contain. The New York Times indicated that the tax data it had seen “provides a road map of revelations, from write-offs for the cost of a criminal defense lawyer and a mansion used as a family retreat to a full accounting of the millions of dollars the president received from the 2013 Miss Universe pageant in Moscow.”
In the video “Watch live: Trump, Biden face off in first 2020 presidential debate“, below:
This has been a very “un-presidential” presidential debate. President Trump has very little respect for the debate process, constantly interrupting. There has been so much interruptions during the debate that the moderator seems to have lost control of the debate. (The moderator needs to be able to turn off the microphone of whoever is interrupting.) President Trump appears as some one who has no self-discipline and a bully. Former Vice-President Joe Biden said of President Donald Trump, “You are the worst president America has ever had.” President Trump appears to be steamrolling not only his opponent Joe Biden but also the moderator.
Wednesday, October 7, 2020, 9:00 pm., ET., the two vice-presidential nominees, Kamala Harris and Mike Pence, will be debating at University of Utah at Salt Lake City, Utah. Some of the claims during debate were Fact Checks by Major Garrett tonight, below:
Joe Biden claims: 100 million Americans have pre-existing conditions (Partially true: In 2017, according to Trump Administration’s Department of Health and Human Services study, 23% to 51% of non-elderly Americans, meaning those under age 65, or 61 million to 133 million Americans have pre-existing condition(s).)
Donald Trump claims: Younger people aren’t “vulnerable” to coronavirus. (Misleading: According to American Academy of Pediatrics, incidents, hospitalization, and death rate for younger people are low, but there are still incidences and transmissibility has been confirmed.)
Donald Trump claims: During Obama-Biden Administration, it presided over the slowest economic recovery since 1929. (False: Because economists agree that the slowest economic recovery after a recession took place after 2001 dotcom bubble burst rather than during Obama-Biden administration.)
See the first presidential debate of the 2020 election between President Donald Trump and Former Vice President Joe Biden and moderated by Chris Wallace, in the video “First Presidential Debate Of 2020 Election, NBC News NOW“, below:
Senator Sanders talks about the debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, Trump’s refusal to accept real science, Biden’s thoughts on the Green New Deal and plans to combat the climate crisis, Trump refusing to condemn white supremacists, whether televised debates are constructive, Trump trying to do away with coverage for pre-existing conditions, the hypocrisy of Lindsey Graham in respect to Trump’s Supreme Court nomination, Americans losing faith in the electoral process, Trump cheating the tax system, and what he says to people who are thinking about not voting, in the video “Bernie Sanders Reacts to Trump Biden Debate“, below:
It wouldn’t be debate night without a LIVE episode of A Late Show! Watch as Stephen Colbert breaks down all the good, bad and ugly moments from the first of three contests between President Trump and Joe Biden, in the video “Stephen Colbert’s LIVE Monologue After The First Trump-Biden Presidential Debate“, below:
I am a mother/wife/daughter, math professor, solar advocate, world traveler, yogi, artist, photographer, sharer of knowledge/information, and resident of Windermere, FL. I've worked professionally in applied math, engineering, medical research, and as a university math professor in IL and FL for about 20 years. My husband and I loved Disney and moved down to Central Florida initially as snowbirds. But we've come to love the warmth and friendly people offered by this community and decided to move down to Windermere, FL full time in 2006. I am now spending time sharing information/ knowledge online, promoting understanding of math and solar energy (via http://www.sunisthefuture.net ), and developing Windermere Sun (http://www.WindermereSun.com) as an online publication, sharing and promoting Community ABC's (Activities-Businesses-Collaborations) for healthier/happier/more sustainable living. In the following posts, I'll be sharing with you some of the reasons why Windermere has attracted us to become full-time residents of Central Florida region.
