A whistleblower Brian Murphy, at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), who was recently demoted, claims that he was ordered to suppress details in intelligence reports that the president would not like, including details about Russian election interference. - Whistleblower Brian Murphy is a top intelligence analyst at DHS
- Brian Murphy said, from 2018 -2020, Murphy was repeatedly told by top DHS official that vetted information (1. number of known or suspected terrorists coming to the U.S. border was being inflated and was confused with the number of special interest aliens 2. information about Russian interference in election 2020 & threat is posed & DHS officials continue to strip information given to Congress about Russian interference) could not go out into the public. When Murphy tried to obtain the accuracy of these numbers, he was being removed from the meeting.
- These intelligence information should be given to Congress in order to protect president’s political interest
The Department of Homeland Security rejects new claims from a whistleblower who says he faced retaliation for refusing to change intelligence reports that did not fit President Trump’s political objectives. He says he was told to leave out details about Russian election interference and the threat from White supremacists. ABC reports that Department of Homeland Security held back a memo warning that Russia is waging a disinformation campaign against Joe Biden. Former Chief Intelligence Officer at DHS is filing a formal Whistleblower complaint alleging repeated incidents that Trump administration sought to censor or manipulate intelligence for political purpose. Official Brian Murphy of DHS said that he was ordered by Acting Secretary Chad Wolf of DHS (who said the order originally came from the White House) to stop producing intelligence report on Russian interference in 2020 election because it “makes President Trump look bad”. Instead, Murphy was instructed to report on activities in China and Iran, which he believes to pose lesser threat but it is something that the president has been pushing. Murphy was also told to downplay violent efforts by White Supremacists while to add into the report any violent activity of the left wing group.
China would prefer to see Trump lose while Russia is actively trying to help Trump win by spreading misinformation and denigrating Joe Biden. Murphy was told to withhold intelligence bulletin on Russia’s efforts and to down play the violent efforts by White Supremacists and to include in the report any violent activity of the left wing group . Murphy told his supervisors that “…it was improper to hold a vetted intelligence for reasons of political embarrassment.” Both White House and DHS are pushing back and said that there were no such direct request from the White House.
Attorney Mark Zaid, who is representing Department of Homeland Security whistleblower Brian Murphy, joins Hallie Jackson as his client prepares to speak out to investigators and to members of Congress.
