In light of how much social media is being used to influence adults’ and teens’ behavior, our buying patterns, or to influence social or governmental changes (such as Arab Spring) and policy, we need to better understand its impact, to regulate how it is being used to modify our behavior, and/or to be wary of its profit-driven motive force and exponential impact.  Netflix special, “The Social Dilemma“, presented at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and released on September 9, 2020, accomplishes the task of guiding us through the labyrinth of the infrastructure and driving force behind various social media platforms and alerts us to the need of its constraints in order to avoid the destruction of our civilization through polarization and isolation.
